UCF’s Spectrum Stadium to be Renamed
Spectrum Stadium has been the home of UCF football since it’s opening in 2007. This came after decades of the Knights playing off-campus at the now Camping World Stadium in downtown Orlando. Building Spectrum Stadium on-campus really helped institute a swagger of sorts for the program. This helped give the Knights an true home to play football.
Buzz recently surfaced that the university had found a new partner for the stadium’s naming rights. Spectrum has possessed these rights since 2017, when it was renamed after Charter Communications acquired Bright House Networks, the stadium’s former namesake.
Speculation is that the new naming rights will be acquired by RoofClaim.com, a roofing company centered in Florida. RoofClaim just recently acquired naming rights for the field at Spectrum Stadium prior to the 2019 season. This is the leading cause for fans to believe this to be the new corporate partner, as seen in the tweet above.
Many frown upon the emblazoning of big corporations’ logos on college stadiums, but it is all about economics. The money brought in by these partnerships are very beneficial to the universities and their athletic departments. One thing is for certain, influence of corporate naming rights in college sports will only grow with time.
