Big 12 Week 11 What Happened and PR:
It is official that College Gameday will be coming to the Big 12. It will be the first time this season, and more than likely, the last.
Two teams nearly shifted the paradigm of the Big 12.
Instead, here we are, with all kinds of action and close finishes.
Cameron Dicker is the most clutch player wearing burnt orange
Skylar Thompson came out of the gates, guns blazing for the Wildcats. He threw two early TD passes and had K-State ahead early.
After that, however, the offense bottomed out and didn’t reach the end zone again.
K-State’s run game was stuffed and Thompson couldn’t find the same success.
This was the first game back with a healthy UT defensive unit. Although not great at first, they made adjustments throughout.
Having a big day for the Longhorns was RB Keaontay Ingram.
Ingram rushed for a season high, 139 yards, and adding 2 touchdowns to his stat line.
The duo of Collin Johnson and Devin DuVernay went over 100 yards a piece. QB Sam Ehlinger made some big throws and the WR duo was a big part of those plays.
This is a game Texas needed as they’ll need to win out to have a shot to another trip to Arlington. Whether that happens, only time will tell.
With Texas tied, and needing a play, only one man can step up. The same one that beat Kyler Murray last year and Kansas this year.
It was Cameron Dicker that came clutch and nailed a 24 yarder. That FG would walk it off and give the Longhorns the win.
However, this was a positive step for the Longhorns.
Kansas State will be back home, looking to rebound against West Virginia. Meanwhile, Texas will be traveling to face Iowa State.
Baylor’s defense does just enough
If this game was judged by regulation, it would be up for the ugliest game of the season. However, the overtime portion of this game had all kinds of excitement.
In the end, what was one of the main backbreakers was 3 interceptions from Max Duggan.
On the same day as Alabama and LSU playing, it was BU-TCU that lacked offense.
The two Christian Texas schools combined for 18 points and zero TD’s in the first 60 minutes.
Charlie Brewer connected with Denzel Mims twice through the OT periods in the end zone.
Max Duggan raced for what looked like a 3OT TD. Instead, they reviewed it and said he stepped out at the 3.
TCU would be stonewalled and Duggan threw pick #3 to end the game.
Although not a pretty season, Baylor is undefeated and has the game of the year this upcoming Saturday. Baylor will host Oklahoma, as well as, College Gameday.
TCU will be traveling to play Texas Tech at Noon.
Iowa State nearly makes it back to back in Norman
Iowa State has done something very few teams have done or can say. They have now lost 3 games this season by 3 or less points.
There is a legit argument for Iowa State to be 7-2, maybe even 8-1. However, it took 2 20 point comebacks to stay in both of those games.
Brock Purdy had among his best games of the season, throwing for 282 and 5 touchdowns.
Freshman Breece hall had a very impressive game, running over the century mark on 18 carries.
However, it was still the Jalen Hurts show with 300+ total yards and 5 touchdowns.
CeeDee Lamb continues to do Ceedee Lamb things with 167 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The key to beating OU is containing Lamb, while also taking out the run game. Iowa State was unable to do either.
Oklahoma travels to Waco for a potential Top 10 matchup with Baylor.
Iowa State will be back at home, facing the Texas Longhorns.
Texas Tech gangs up on Mountaineers early and often; cruise to big road win
After being a shell of itself, Texas Tech imposed their will on West Virginia.
Austin Kendall had one of his more inspiring games. Where there is inspiration, there is also false hope. Kendall threw for 355 yards, but 0 TD’s and 2 INT’s.
Doege came in as a backup, and scored a TD on 119 yards throwing.
For Tech’s QB, Duffey had one of his really good game, having a 92.5 QBR and 354 yards.
Texas Tech’s O-Line was really good this game, keeping Duffey clean with 0 sacks.
It’s even more impressive, considering WV got to Charlie Brewer 8 times the week prior.
Texas Tech still has an outside chance of a bowl game. They’ll need a big performance against TCU in order to get a step closer to achieving that goal.
For West Virginia, winning out is the only chance. That begins with Kansas State in Manhattan.
