5 Breakthrough Performances from Week 10
Chuba Hubbard RB Oklahoma State
20 carries, 223 yards, 2 touchdowns
One criticism for Hubbard has been the amount of carries he has had. After a long time, the wear and tear would takt it’s tool.
However, Chuba has doubled his carries from last year and still has 4 games left to play.
The star Sophomore recorded his 4th 200 yard performance of the year against TCU. He had his 2nd highest YPC total as he averaged 11 yards a touch.
Hubbard is going to continue to be the workhorse with a freshman QB under center. As well as, All-American WR Tylan Wallace tearing his ACL.
Oklahoma State is bowl eligible and how the offense is run will be down to how well Chuba Hubbard performs.
Mason Fine QB North Texas
24-39, 332 yards, 7 touchdowns
One of the more less talked about QB’s in the country has definitely been Mason Fine.
The 4th year starter has been the best QB in the programs history and thrown for over 90 Touchdowns.
7 of those came on Saturday alone. Even though UTEP is among one of the worst FBS teams, Fine was still throwing the ball all around the field.
Even though his performance didn’t get a ton of national coverage, his outfit postgame certainly did.
Fine has now thrown for over 12,000 passing yards and will go down as the best offensive player in Mean Green history.
Antonio Gibson WR Memphis
386 all-purpose yards, 3 touchdowns
Memphis, Tennessee is where the eyes of CFB were laser focused on. College Gameday, present for the first time in school history.
This could’ve gone to the entire offense. However, the emergence of Antonio Gibson is the reason Memphis won.
Gibson had only gone over 100 yards one time in his career (105 vs. Navy).
Against previously unbeaten SMU, Gibson had 6 catches for 130 yards and a touchdown. Gibson also had a kick return for a touchdown.
To add to all of that, Gibson put the exclamation point on his night with this great rushing TD.
Defensive Coordinators will keep an eye on Gibson for the rest of the year. How you contain Gibson will be seen soon.
Jamie Newman QB Wake Forest
25-38, 287 yards, 3 touchdowns. 11 carries, 30 touchdowns, 2 touchdowns
Coming into this season, Trevor Lawrence has been the main talk of the ACC. A potential controversial take would be he hasn’t been the best player in his own conference.
The biggest surprise, for sure has been Jamie Newman from Wake Forest.
The 6’4 245 QB has been consistent all year long and only passed for less than 240 yards just once.
He put it all together in a dominant performance over NC State. The Wolfpack aren’t very good this year and had some turmoil with the QB position.
That is nothing to take away from Newman’s performance though.
He has put Wake Forest on the map this year and anchored by a solid defense (apart from the UL game).
Kylin Hill RB Mississippi State
21 carries, 234 yards, 3 touchdowns
The leader in rushing yards in the SEC has struck once again. He had a stunning 198 yards and 2 touchdowns in just the first half alone.
Mississippi State has struggled at times this season, but Hill has been a star for the Bulldogs.
Hill shows his burst with his ability to stiff arm a man and the rest was a footrace.
Hill is now in unfamiliar territory among all the others in CFB. He is one of just two players with this stat line.
