Big 12 What Happened and PR: Week 10
A plethora of Big 12 teams were on bye weeks in Week 10. Ironically, it was all 4 teams that lost their contests the week prior.
Even though last week was chaotic, this week was slim on Saturday. With Baylor-WV playing on Halloween, it was just two games to look forward to on the best day of the week.
Even though it was not a jam packed week, It was quite entertaining to see how teams adjusted.
How would Okie State bounce back from a torn ACL from Tylan Wallace? Could Kansas shock the nation two weeks in a row? Is Max Duggan the real deal in Fort Worth?
All of that and more was answered in Week 10.
Baylor survives West Virginia’s trick
There was a lot of very weird things that went into this game. A Thursday night game on Halloween should just sum out how this game played out.
Even though not known for defense by a lot of the country, a Big 12 game had a combined 7 points at halftime.
West Virginia’s D-Line was able to terrorize Charlie Brewer early and often. To the tune of 8 sacks, Charlie was under stress throughout.
Even thorough that, the Junior had 277 passing yards and 2 touchdowns. Denzel Mims lead the way receiving with a yard under the century and a touchdown.
Baylor’s defense suffocated West Virginia, especially in the running game. Including just 2 sacks, West Virginia rushed for -0.5 yards per carry and 14 total yards.
Baylor at this point is becoming the lone legit threat at dethroning Oklahoma. That game will be a few weeks, but Baylor survived a scrappy WV defense.
Baylor will be on the road this week in Fort Worth, playing TCU. West Virginia will regroup with a home game against lowly Texas Tech.
Kansas State puts a stamp on the Jayhawks.
The first sellout at the University of Kansas in a decade. Kansas coming off a monumental win over Texas Tech. Kansas State coming off a earth-shaking win over Oklahoma the week before.
The buildup for the Sunflower Showdown was at an all time high.
Kansas State went into Lawrence and done what they’ve done over the past 11 years. Kansas State dominated Kansas in every facet of the game.
QB Skylar Thompson took over this game passing and rushing for over 100 yards.
RB Harry Trotter also had his best game of his young career. The Freshman finished with 92 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.
Carter Stanley looked pedestrian in this game after lighting up the scoreboard the past few weeks. Stanley had a 3.1 QBR with 115 yards and 2 interceptions.
The most impressive part of the K-State defense was the containment of Pooka Williams.
The man who rushed for near 200 yards against Texas had just 61 yards in this contest.
Kansas State is playing well at the right time. They have a big road test in Austin against the Texas Longhorns. A place the Wildcats haven’t won at since 2011.
Kansas will get the week off before traveling to Stillwater to face Oklahoma State.
Chubba Hubbard is the best RB in the conference…and it’s not even close
Speaking of the Cowboys, never count Mike Gundy out. Loss of a star WR for the season, Okie State could’ve been in for a let down.
Instead, Oklahoma State made big plays and overcame a stingy TCU defense.
Chuba Hubbard has always been in the discussion for the Doak Walker award. This game, however, will showcase how explosive he is.
The one knock on Hubbard is his volume of carries affects his yardage.
Hubbard averages in the ballpark of over 30 carries per game. That is an astronomical rate for a College RB.
However, Hubbard only needed 20 carries in this game to exceed 200 yards. That included a 92 yard TD run and a 62 yard TD run.
Max Duggan struggled late with 3 second half turnovers and the defense was hit or miss throughout for TCU.
Duggan also got hurt late in the game, so his status for next week is up in the air. The good news for TCU is that Jalen Reagor had a fantastic game.
7 catches for 128 yards was his final stat line and he made a couple of fantastic grabs.
Getting Jalen Reagor consistent and healthy will be TCU’s best offense.
Oklahoma State will get the week off, before staying home for a game with Kansas. TCU comes back home to face the I-35 rival, Baylor.
