Big 12 Week 10 Preview
Oh boy, did the conference turn upside down. Nothing that was expected to happen, actually happened and may have shot the conference out of CFP talk.
After that bizarre week, almost half of the league is on a bye. It consists of a rivalry game and a potential trap game for a contender.
With that in mind, it’s time to take a sneak peek into what Week 10 has in store.
Thursday:
West Virginia vs. #12 Baylor 8 PM EST. ESPN
With what happened last week, no game is a guarantee. West Virginia had their way with Baylor last year. Ironically, that was a Thursday night affair in Morgantown.
The Mountaineers come to Waco this time with not a ton of momentum. The run game has slightly improved, but lingering injures are a concern.
WV will be without 3 starters on defense and Austin Kendall is recovering from one.
For Baylor, there was a chance their return to promise would be a reality. It is a surprise to everyone it has happened so quickly.
The Baylor defense averages a mere 19.7 PPG (leading the Big 12) and is among top in scoring offense (38.7 PPG).
On Halloween night and Pat McAfee on the call, it is guaranteed to get weird. Which is why I believe this game will be closer than people think.
However, Baylor will stay undefeated and move on to the meat of their schedule on the horizon.
Baylor 38, West Virginia 23
Saturday:
Kansas vs. #22 Kansas State. 3:30 EST, FS1
In for the first time in seems like forever, this matchup looks really intriguing.
Both of teams are on all-time highs after program defining victories. Kansas won in the most un-Kansas way to possibly win. Kansas State dominated Oklahoma in the trenches and shocked the CFB world.
This series has had close calls, but the score always going in Kansas State’s favor.
Both QB’s are coming off their best games of their career last week. Carter Stanley throwing for 400+ yards and a walk-off win over Texas Tech.
Especially with a stingy defense like Texas Tech’s, it makes Stanley’s performance even more impressive.
Skylar Thompson didn’t quite rack up the stat sheet, but did have 4 rushing touchdowns.
This game should be a close, competitive game, with a somewhat hostile crowd. In the end, K-State will hang on and Chris Klieman will be praised by a lot of the media.
Kansas State 30, Kansas 24
TCU vs. Oklahoma State. 3:30 EST, ESPN
Two teams both trending up after impressive performances. TCU defeated the Texas (not so back) Longhorns in Fort Worth. Meanwhile, Oklahoma State handled (the bugle) Iowa State Cyclones.
Max Duggan showed his versatility of a passer and a runner with over 400 total yards. TCU defense also stood tall against an above average Texas offense.
Forcing 4 Sam Ehlinger interceptions and just 4 yards per carry for the UT offense.
Brocktober came to an end for Iowa State as Oklahoma State’s defense. Forcing 3 turnovers from Purdy and only 3.1 yards per carry.
Both teams defense showed up in order to win their games. However, this game could turn into a bit of a shootout.
Both offenses have a somewhat sense of consistency and these teams are fighting for potentinal postseason positioning.
This one will be more offensive, but the home team will outlast the away.
Oklahoma State 37, TCU 31
