Big 12 Week 8 What Happened and PR:
With Week 8 looming, Saturday had some intriguing matchups. However, there wasn’t clear winners in most of the matchups.
Week 8 really had the top half of the conference take shape. The top 4 teams are essentially cemented and 4-9 is wide open.
From near upsets to spoiling of homecoming. Many big time performances and egregious officiating continues to spread throughout the conference.
2 undefeated teams left, one that is a complete surprise. To not only the conference, but to the entire country.
Kansas gives Texas a near heart attack
The chaos that commenced in this game reached unfathomable of heights with a minute to go.
The University of Texas Longhorns. That portray themselves as “DBU”. They let Kansas go 8 plays, 75 yards in 96 seconds to give them the lead late.
Carter Stanley had a terrific game, throwing for 310 yards and 4 touchdowns. More performances like that gives Kansas a chance to win a lot of games.
The Texas offense had zero issues going up and down the field. Texas had 638 total yards and almost 400 of it through the air.
The Texas secondary is plagued with injuries and that was part of Kansas success. However, Pooka Williams broke out once again. The superstar Sophomore rushed for 190 yards and 2 Touchdowns.
Williams had been off to a slow start to begin the year. Seeing this kind of performance shows he’s capable of popping off against anybody.
Texas will be on the road this week, facing off against TCU. Kansas will be at home, facing Texas Tech.
Oklahoma dismantles West Virginia
The homecoming of Austin Kendall had a ton of people compelled to tune in. By about halfway through the 3rd quarter, the channel had been changed.
Oklahoma made sure to not keep this one close. Before and after rivalry games, there tends to be let downs.
Oklahoma let Kansas hang around for a half prior to Texas. Oklahoma didn’t have the same mistake UT almost had.
The Oklahoma offense is special, but we already knew that.
The defense put on a absolute clinic on Saturday. What is most impressive is they didn’t put up big numbers.
Oklahoma didn’t have a single sack in this game. Yet, they gave up 51 rushing yards and had 9 TFL. Austin Kendall’s return didn’t go as planned, but wasn’t an awful performance.
The Junior threw for 182 yards and 2 touchdowns. He did however complete below 50% of his passes on the day (15-31).
After this dismantling, Oklahoma will travel to Manhattan to play K-State. West Virginia on the other hand, will be on a bye.
Baylor spoils homecoming
Before we begin, can we come to an agreement. Baylor is a good football team. The Bears are a legit contender for the Big 12 title game in December.
Tylan Wallace was held to a season low 69 yards on just 6 catches in this game. Hubbard got “held” to a moderate 5.3 yards per game and Sanders had 3 turnovers.
A defense that just lost impact MLB Clay Johnston didn’t look like they needed the senior captain.
There had been questions about the consistency of the offense and whether they can keep up with others.
Charlie Brewer had 312 yards on just 13 completions. That is an average of 24 yards per completion. I’d say that is explosive. The Bears ran for 224 yards on 13 less carries than the Cowboys.
Baylor’s offense showed to potent in a road environment against a decent Oklahoma State.
As a Cowboy fan, it has to be a little disappointing to see this performance. After a disgruntling loss to Texas Tech, Okie State got a week off to prepare.
Chuba Hubbard had a good game, but the passing game looked incompetent at times. Oklahoma State also could not stop the big play.
Baylor will have this week on a bye. Meanwhile, Oklahoma State will be on the road against Iowa State.
TCU is in another down season
There is one issue with TCU’s offense. The lack of perimeter depth and a capable QB to get it their.
Max Duggan was near 50% throwing and had just 132 passing yards. 85 of that going to Jalen Reagor. Where he wasn’t through the air, he was on the ground.
The highlight of the season so far was this amazing 46 yard TD run by Duggan.
Kansas State needed this win. In a very, very bad way. Neither team did anything special offensively (to not much of a surprise).
Kansas State found a way to put it in the end zone. Skylar Thompson had 2 passing touchdowns and the defense held TCU to 5-14 on 3rd down conversions.
Kansas State moves to 4-2 and inches their way closer to the top half. TCU drops to .500 and it may get worse for them.
Kansas State will have the daunting test of Oklahoma coming to town. TCU will unveil these uniforms in their home contest against Texas on Saturday.
Iowa State impresses on the road….AGAIN
Among the hottest teams in the Big 12 is the Cyclones of Iowa State. Even with two losses, those are games ISU could’ve won.
Going on the road against a team that lost a heartbreaker the week before. This is a game Iowa State could’ve easily folded.
Iowa State came in and punched Tech right in the mouth. Purdy started off with 3 first half TD passes. The defense was suffocating Tech and the stadium was quiet.
Texas Tech would pull within 10 and had momentum heading there way. Until Breece Hall quieted the crowd with a 30 yard TD run. With under 6 minutes left, that was essentially the dagger.
We’ve seen the good Jett Duffey and the bad Jett Duffey. We got mostly bad from the Sophomore this week. He did have 40 completions on 52 attempts. However, that rounded up to a minuscule 5.97 yards per completion.
Just for clarification, that is not a good number.
Iowa State will be at home this week, facing a down Oklahoma State. Texas Tech will be on the road in Lawrence against Kansas.
Power Rankings:
Oklahoma (7-0)
