Big 12 What Happened and PR: Week 7
Coming into the week, the Big 12 had 3 somewhat legit CFP contenders. That list has been trimmed down to just 2. One that was clear as day.
The other however, not quite what people expected.
Coming into this week, it was expected to have 3 competitive games. Week 7 provided exactly that with big time performances, walk-off scores, and butt fumbles.
The River is truly Red
What debatably could’ve been the site of College Gameday, the game inside the Cotton Bowl lived up to expectations.
This is a game where neither team played perfect. However, it was CeeDee Lamb that was the difference maker.
The Offensive Player of the Week exploded for 10 catches, 171 yards, and 3 dynamic touchdowns.
This game was close and surprisingly defensive for a half. Jalen Hurts had thrown an interception and coughed up the ball in the red zone twice. At the very least, OU is up 17-3 at half.
This could’ve been a game where OU lets UT hang around and Texas takes advantage of it.
That wasn’t the case though. Kennedy Brooks had over 10 yards a carry and ended up with 105 rushing yards.
Oklahoma’s defense looked so improved, especially in the first half. Oklahoma was bashed by many last year for their uninspiring defense.
In this game, Oklahoma got to Sam Ehlinger 9 times and had 15 TFL. The 27 points is a bit deceiving as some of that came late in the game.
Oklahoma’s slate the rest of the way looks very light. Outside of a road trip to Waco and Bedlam, OU’s should be favored heavily the rest of the way.
For Texas, they return back home to face Kansas. Texas will also be releasing some throwback uniforms for this game.
Walk off BUTT Bowl win for Baylor
In what looked like a game that could end 14-10, the offenses came alive.
This being the first time either team played on a home field in a decade, it sure felt different.
These teams combined for 6 turnovers, 1,035 total yards, and over 150 yards penalties.
After not throwing an interception all year, Charlie Brewer got picked off 3 times in this game.
After giving up just 4 sacks all season, Texas Tech gave up 5 in this contest alone.
That came with consequeces though as Baylor did lose their best defensive player in MLB Clay Johnston. He tore his ACL returning an interception and his Baylor career is officially over.
Sarodorick Thompson had an excellent game for the Red Raiders. Thompson ran for 153 yards and 2 touchdowns, including a 30 yard TD run.
The teams would head into overtime after a game-tying FG from John Mayers.
Both teams would score TD’s in Overtime.
Tech would hit a FG in Double OT as Jamychal Hasty would walk it off with a 6 yard TD run.
Iowa State’s takes over in the 2nd half in Morgantown
Don’t let the final score of this game fool you. This was a tied ballgame heading into halftime.
We got to see the first meaningful time for Jack Allison. Although there was some positives, Allison didn’t throw down field much. A lot of credit goes to Iowa State’s secondary.
After a slow start to the half, Iowa State exploded in the 2nd half offensively.
Mostly, led by former 4 star RB Breece Hall. The freshman had his best game, rushing for 132 yards and 3 touchdowns in the contest.
West Virginia has some talent on this team. Unfortunately, they don’t have the horses to survive a full game.
Especially, not a team like Iowa State. Iowa State has looked motivated the past few weeks. They’ll have Texas Tech coming to town.
Meanwhile, West Virginia has the tough task of traveling to Norman. A place no one has won at since Iowa State in 2017.
