5 Breakthrough Performances from Week 7
Oklahoma WR Ceedee Lamb
10 catches, 177 yards, 3 Touchdowns
It seems hard to believe, but Texas contained OU’s passing at times. Outside of Lamb, the OU receivers caught just 6 passes. Those passes went for just 64 yards.
The problem is CeeDee Lamb is a top 2 WR in CFB right now. Lamb’s ability to cut and be slippery is rare to see.
The 3 year starter broke out and exposed the Texas defense. One that was awful at tackling coming into the game.
Texas had the most missed tackles coming into week 8. They will finish week 8 with the most.
This is a game people will put on his highlight reel when he’s drafted in the top 15 in April.
The argument between him and Jerry Jeudy will be debated for a while. For now, let us enjoy this display of skill Lamb produces.
Oregon’s Defense
3 points allowed, 10 TFL’s, 4 interceptions
Steve Montez has been in college football for what seems like a decade. As a freshman, he played during Colorado’s best season in a while. Coached by Mike Macintyre.
With that being said, Oregon made him look like Arthur Sitkowski. Montez finished with 131 yards passing and 4 interceptions, with a 24.7 QBR rating.
Highly touted Redshirt Freshman Verone McKinley III nabbed the first 2 picks of his career.
Colorado was able to have somewhat of a decent run game with 168 yards. However, Oregon displayed all kinds of dominance.
Limiting Laviska Shenault to just 70 yards and no one else had more than 20 yards.
Oregon has a chance to win out if this defense can continue to win this way. It will be an uphill challenge, but it is possible.
Arizona State QB Jayden Daniels
26/36 363 passing yards, 3 passing touchdowns. 23 rushing yards, a rushing touchdown.
It’s quite shocking to think the #2 dual threat QB committed to Arizona State. It’s crazy to think Herm Edwards was able to pull him in.
He showed his true potential with this acrobatic play to give ASU the win.
The 6-3 freshman from San Bernardino showcased his speed, acceleration, and athleticism to give them the lead.
ASU is currently 5-1 and has quietly crept into the top 20, sitting at #17. Jayden Daniels could push the Sun Devils to the conference title game.
Wisconsin Defense
149 total yards allowed, 0 points allowed, and 2 interceptions
This seems to be cheating consider how they’ve started this season.
Wisconsin has allowed 4.8 PPG through the first 6 games. No, that is not a typo. That is almost double than 2nd place.
The one nag has been who they have played. They did shutout Michigan for 3 quarters, that seems like a adequate offense with decent play calling.
Wisconsin displayed the same dominance allowing below 50% completion percentage from both MSU QB’s.
Wisconsin has a road matchup with Ohio State in 2 weeks. That will be the ultimate test to see how legit this defense is.
LSU QB Joe Burrow
21/24 293 passing yards, 3 touchdowns. 43 rushing yards and a 96.2 QBR
Last season, Burrow had an issue with accuracy and consisting completing downfield passes. That has been the opposite for Burrow in 2019.
Burrow is an ungodly 79% throwing the football and eclipsed last year’s passing TD total.
Burrow has now exposed 2 “elite” defenses as he tore up Florida late in that game.
Including this beautiful route and throw from Burrow to Ja’Marr Chase.
LSU obviously still has 2 more tests left in Auburn and at Alabama.
Currently, I have Joe Burrow as the Heisman favorite. If he can perform to this level, I believe they have a shot to beat both teams.
If that does happen, the trend of OU QB’s winning the Heisman will be snapped and it will return to Baton Rogue.
