Alabama Surpasses Clemson on Latest Associated Press Poll
Through the first four weeks of the college football season the top three rankings were cemented. However, when the latest Associated Press poll released, things changed. Alabama has surpassed Clemson for the top spot and will fight to keep it throughout the season. Here are some of the factors that make Alabama the current number one in college football.
Clemson hasn’t been dominant
Alright, it is hard to say that Clemson has not been dominate at times, but it’s who they’ve been dominate against that’s worrisome. The first game of the season against Georgia Tech showed signs that this team may struggle. After that, we have seen less than perfect performances against Texas A&M and the University of North Carolina. The game against UNC was especially troubling. Clemson faced a non-ranked opponent and still had to struggle to win the game. Clemson will play Florida State next and the outcome of that game will almost surely decide the rankings of the next poll.
Alabama’s consistency
We are a month into the season, and Alabama still has zero losses and some very impressive performances on offense. The closest game was decided by twenty-four points against South Carolina. The difference in play this year between Tua Tagovailoa and Trevor Lawrence is much closer than it was last year. A healthy Tagovailoa has taken full control of this Alabama offense. Tagovailoa has also put himself in a better position to win the Heisman Trophy this year than Lawrence based on the latest Vegas odds.
The lack of a third competitor
Georgia is the toughest competition for Alabama and Clemson, due to impressive wins over teams like Notre Dame and Vanderbilt in these first few weeks of the season. Oklahoma and Ohio State are adapting to new quarterbacks this season and will need time to adjust. LSU has looked impressive at times this season, but will need to prove themselves against stronger teams.
There is a chance that later on in the season Alabama is stripped if its number one position. To keep up to date on news regarding everything college football visit https://www.redcupnews.com.
