Big 12 Week 5 Preview
Week 5 begins the full conference slate for the conference as a whole. West Virginia and Texas are on bye weeks after conference wins.
2 of these games are considered blowouts, according to Vegas. The other two are toss ups
Kansas vs. TCU 12 PM EST FS1
Both of these teams had chances to show who they were last week. Neither were able to walk out with a win.
For Kansas, they had a chance to not finish at the bottom last week. With falling to West Virginia, there’s a good chance Kansas will finish 10th once again.
TCU had been advertised to be among the best defenses in the conference. The Horned Frogs gave up 400 yards to SMU and gave up 41 points.
I do not believe TCU’s defense puts up another performance similar to that. I also think Shane Buchele is a much better QB than Carter Stanley.
Herbert and Williams both rush for a good amount, but Stanley struggles. TCU gets 3 turnovers and a touchdown on defense.
Duggan finds his feet and puts a better performance.

Texas Tech vs. #6 Oklahoma 12 PM EST FOX
It’s difficult enough to travel to Norman while they are elite. It’s even harder when your starting QB goes down the game before.
Jett Duffey has experience after playing quite a bit last year. Consistency with his arm is the main issue. The combination of that and Tech only scoring 14 on Arizona should scare Red Raider fans.
The same defense that gave up 41 points to Northern Arizona the week before.
Jalen Hurts has not been tested at all so far this season. Even with the struggles of Tech, their pass defense has been fantastic so far.
The Red Raiders are giving up 13.7 PPG and only 130 Passing Yards per game. That stat is good enough for #3 in the NCAA.
Even against weak competition, Hurts will finally play somewhat of a formidable defense.
Hurts has times of struggle, but for the most part, does his part.
Oklahoma 45, Texas Tech 24
Iowa State vs. Baylor 3:30 PM EST ESPN
This game represents the two ends of the spectrum in terms of wins.
Iowa State crushed UL-Monroe in the 2nd half. While Baylor was taken all 4 quarters with Rice.
This game had some added fuel from both fanbases because of what happened last year. A fight had broken out during the game which appeared to have begun by Iowa State WR Hakeem Butler.
Neither fanbases have liked each other and with both teams being equally talented, it should create a fantastic environment for Saturday.
This game will be back and forth and will be determined by who will run the ball better. In the end, the homefield advantage will take over and Baylor gets the win,
Baylor 34, Iowa State 27
#24 Kansas State vs. Oklahoma State 6 PM EST ESPN+
It did not get taken well by many fans when this schedule was announced. The primetime game in the Big 12. 2 very even teams with standing implications.
The game ends up being featured on ESPN+.
Nonetheless, similar to BU-ISU, this game should be very good and exciting.
Even with the loss in Austin, Spencer Sanders was very good in a hostile environment. Even though he threw 2 interceptions, Sanders accounted for 377 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns.
Texas Tech may have had a top 5 pass defense, but it’s not the best in the conference. That title belongs to K-State (118 per game). That stat is #2 in the entire country.
“But the Big 12 doesn’t play defense”. Sanders faced his first real defense on Saturday. That won’t change this weekend in Klieman is all defense and the K-State secondary is always really good.
A night game in Stillwater is a ranked team’s worst nightmare. It will rear it’s ugly head as Skylar Thompson is a below average QB in the conference.
The Cowboys get a big game out of RB Chubba Hubbard and the Cowboys get a late INT to seal it.
