LSU Is Alabama’s Biggest Threat
Going into this season, all the talk was about how LSU’s offense will be different this year. We’ve heard that for years it seems like. But after week two in the season, college football fans are starting to believe it this time. In fact, opposing teams in the SEC may be starting to fear them. Here are some reasons why LSU has the best chance to dethrone Alabama in the SEC.
Texas A&M aren’t ready just yet.
Jimbo Fisher and the Aggie’s had a chance to show the world they were contenders on Saturday. The game ended with Clemson winning 24-10 in a game which A&M never really seemed to pose a threat. Texas A&M gave Fisher a very large contract in the summer. This was his first chance to show his skill set as a coach, but he came up empty handed. Coming into the season, most people believed that Texas A&M was the third best team in the SEC. After two weeks, the Aggie’s shouldn’t be cast aside. However, we will need to see improvement before they are labeled as playoff contenders in the SEC.
Alabama’s kicking game is inconsistent.
It seems to be the chink in the armor of Nick Saban’s program. A shaky opening night consisted of two missed kicks from freshman kicker Will Reichard. The strong legged kicker put on a strong showing on Saturday converting two field goals from over forty yards. The week-to-week consistency is certainly something that Alabama fans will worry about as the season progresses.
LSU’s offense is legit.
LSU fans have seen world class offensive talent go to waste in the past few years. Players like Odell Beckham Jr and Leonard Fournette were unable to taste national glory at LSU. These same players have become world class players in the National Football League. However, LSU fans just saw their team travel to Texas and put 45 points on the Longhorns.
Alabama have started their year off strong and look impressive. Nick Saban has put out another strong team this season. Therefore, LSU will still be considered a major underdog when competing against Alabama. Still, LSU fans should be excited about a quality offense to pair with their defense this year, as they look to dethrone Alabama.
