JMU @ WVU Preview and Predictions
- JMU @ WVU
- 2PM Morgantown, WV
- Line: -6
WVU has a tough schedule this season. 11 Power 5 teams. A win against JMU would be a great start to the Neal Brow era.
WVU Team Preview:
Biggest Strength: Running Game.
With 2 NFL prospects on the O-Line and every running back from last season’s team returning, you’re going to have a good run game. Being able to bully JMU in short yardage situations will take pressure off Kendall.
Biggest Weakness: Experience/Depth
New faces across the board. Most of which don’t have a ton of experience at the College level. Week 1 for a young rebuilding team could see some hiccups.
Best Offensive Player:
Kennedy McKoy RB
Ran for 800 yards last season as WVU’s RB1. West Virginia will likely rely on the running game much more this season and that all starts with McKoy.
Best Defensive Player:
Josh Norwood S
Norwood made the change from Corner to Safety this offseason likely hoping to have a bigger impact. Has All-Big 12 potential.
JMU Team Preview:
Biggest Strength: Experience
9 Starters return on offense and 10 return on defense. This is one of the most experienced teams in the country.
Biggest Weakness: Talent
JMU is just slower and smaller across the board compared to WVU.
Best Offensive Player:
Ben DiNucci QB
Pitt transfer threw for 2275 Yards and 16 TDs in his first year as JMU’s QB1. Scrappy runner got 9 TDs on the ground last season. Doesn’t have great arm talent.
Best Defensive Player:
Rashad Robinson CB
One of the best defenders outside of the Power 5. Robinson could be a big factor in the passing game against a young QB. I’ve seen his as high as 3rd round on NFL mock drafts.
Prediction:
I just can’t see JMU winning this game in Morgantown. DiNucci is a good QB but he’s a game-manager. If WVU’s offense can get going the game will be over.
WVU 30-17
