RJ Barrett NBA Scouting Report and Pro Comparison
Measurables:
- Age: 19
- Height: 6’7″
- Wingspan: 6’10”
- Weight: 200 LBs
Strengths:
Elite scorer off the dribble.
Good rebounder for a wing.
Gets to the FT line frequently (5.9 FTA/Game).
Very good athlete.
Great playmaker for his size. Could potentially be primary ball-handler.
Decent defender.
Weaknesses:
TO Prone (3.2 TO/Game).
Still developing as a shooter (30.8 3PT% and 66.5 FT%).
Can play wildly offensively. Takes dumb shots at times.
Pro Comparison:
DeMar DeRozan with more potential as a shooter.
Ball dominant wings who are elite slashers/scorers off the dribble. Very good athletes with elite footwork and game-changing playmaking skills, Barrett/DeRozan make their teammates better by forcing opponents to double and making plays. Defensively they aren’t game-changers, however they use their athleticism and rebounding prowess to be positives. DeRozan’s major weakness has been his lack of a 3PT shot which is a skill that will determine whether or not Barrett is a All-NBA type talent.
NBA Draft Outlook:
Virtual Lock For The No. 3 Pick.
Ideal Fits:
Knicks at 3:
The Knicks roster could be one of the NBA’s best or NBA’s worst depending on how Free Agency goes. If they sign injured KD or Klay, Barrett will likely be the best player on the team until they come back allowing him to develop as a No. 1 option for the majority of the season. Barrett’s versatility will allow him to play minutes at 2-4 and play the role of a dominant scorer or game-changing playmaker depending on who he’s surrounded by.
