Jontay Porter NBA Scouting Report and Pro Comparison
Jontay Porter NBA Draft Preview.
Measurables:
- Age: 19
- Height: 6’11”
- Wingspan: 7’0″
- Weight: 210 LBs
Strengths:
Elite passer from the post. Reminds me of Jokic as a playmaker.
Decent shooter from beyond the arc (.364 3PT% on 1.2 3PM)
Not a highflying athlete, but smooth with good reactions.
Very young for a Sophomore. Graduated HS a year early.
Can create offense off the dribble.
Decent rebounder. Uses big body well.
Weaknesses:
Injury prone. Missed entire 2018-2019 Season with ACL/MCL tear which he re-aggravated recently.
Struggles guarding on the perimeter. Slow feet.
Foul prone. 4.3 Fouls per 36 Minutes.
Good shooter, but inefficient Freshman season (.437 FG%).
NBA Comparison:
Bigger Boris Diaw/Homeless man’s Nikola Jokic
Absurdly skilled for their size, they can orchestrate an offense from the post and stretch the floor off-ball. Not great athletes, but naturally smooth and faster than advertised. They use their size and strength to position themselves on the glass.
Draft Outlook:
Likely 25-35. Will likely be determined by how his injury has progressed.
Ideal Fits:
Cleveland at 26:
Cleveland is in no hurry to win and Porter could be a high potential pickup in the late first. Without a decent Center on the roster, he could be a featured part of the offense and create easy looks for his teammates.
San Antonio at 29:
Porter and Aldridge would be a bit redundant, but Porter could orchestrate the bench unit and one day take over as a featured Big Man. The Spurs value Bigs who can pass/shoot and Jontay fits the Bill.
Dallas at 37:
Doubt he will fall this far, but Dallas would be an awesome landing spot for his skills. Defensively Porzingis is long/quick enough to cover Porter’s lack of speed. Offensively, he could not only stretch the floor, but occupy the paint while Doncic and Porzingis run the perimeter.
