Tremont Waters NBA Scouting Report and Pro Comparison
Measurements:
- Age: 21
- Height: 5’10.75″
- Wingspan: 6’2.25″
- Weight: 172 LBs
Strengths:
One of the best playmakers in the draft.
Good at getting to the line and elite FT shooter (81.3 FT%).
Uses quickness to generate steals (2.9 SPG) (SEC Co-DPOY).
Not a great athlete, but very quick. Can break down bigger defenders.
One of the best alley-oop passers I have ever watched tape on.
Weaknesses:
Would be one of the smallest NBA players at 5’10”. Limits defensive potential.
Turnover prone (3.5 TO).
Very streaky jumpshot.
Being a consistent NBA scorer will be difficult due to his size.
NBA Comparison:
Fred VanVleet
Similar size at 6’0″ with a 6’2″ wingspan, these guys use high basketball IQs and quickness to be pesks on the defensive end. Scoring consistently can be a problem at time, but when a big man guarding them on the perimeter they can break them down and get good looks. Both are capable of lighting a team up from beyond the arc.
Draft Outlook:
35-50 Range
Ideal Fits:
Charlotte at 36 or 52:
Kemba Walker’s fate next season is still up in the air and Tony Parker is 37 years old. Waters could get some good playing time behind one of those guys or, if they both leave, compete for a major rotation spot.
Orlando at 46:
Magic are a team on the rise looking to make a playoff push. With a ton of talent in the frontcourt, they will likely be looking to beef up the Guard slots. Water’s defense and ability to get the ball to the post could get him some playing time.
Indiana at 50:
Indiana likes to push the ball on the fast break and get high percentage shots. Waters would do well in that offense with his quickness and passing ability. His knack for getting steals would be great in initiating a full court offense.
