Dick Vitale Wants To Keep Calling Games Until He’s 100
Yesterday Dick Vitale (79) received the lifetime achievement award and gave the New York Post this absolute Dime of a quote.
“I want to walk on the court at 100 years old, the first broadcaster ever to sit there and say, ‘You’re awesome, baby,’” Vitale told The New York Post’s Andrew Marchand.
I’m all in on this. Dick Vitale is unquestionably the greatest college basketball announcer of all time. His excitement and energy is everything that makes CBB great. His analysis isn’t quite where it used to be, but at the end of the day its about entertainment. I’m not saying he should be calling the Natty, but if Duke is up 20 on is there anyone you’d rather have commentating? The answer is no.
Maybe Bill Walton….
As much as I would like to see a primetime game with both of these guys, it would be absolute chaos. They did an NBA game in 2017 that produced some great content. You can check it out here at AwfulAnnouncing.com.
Vitale signed a contract with ESPN in 2018 that will extend him through the 2020-2021 season so we’ll be seeing him at least 2 more seasons.
Long Live Dick Vitale.
