College Gameday Predictions for Week 1 of the 2019 CFB Season
Where Will College Gameday Go Week 1?
Auburn Vs. Oregon (Arlington)
Likelihood: 60%
Oregon needs to win this game if they want to have a shot at the CFB Playoffs. Led by potential No. 1 pick Justin Herbert, they have a legitimate shot to go undefeated in a schedule that really only features a handful of decent teams. Auburn won’t be competing for an SEC championship anytime soon but they have more than enough talent, especially on the defensive line, to make this competitive.
Houston @ Oklahoma
Likelihood: 30%
This game is all about storylines. Highly touted Jalen Hurts will be making his debut for a national championship contender in Oklahoma. Well known electric factory Dana Holgorsen will be making debut for a Houston team lead by Darkhorse Heisman contender D’Eriq King. Must watch TV for CFB fans. The main problem is Oklahoma will probably enter the game as at least a 14-20 point favorite making it tough to justify Gameday.
Florida Vs. Miami (Orlando)
Likelihood: 8%
Miami trots out a potential Heisman contender in Tate Martell which gives this game some intrigue. The Gators are likely the better team on paper led by Felipe Franks and a SEC defense, but recent transfers from key 2019 recruits may make this a much closer game. I’d be surprised if this one is picked, but it’s a possibility.
JMU @ West Virginia
Likelihood: 1%
An Elite FCS team vs rebuilding FBS matchup. Morgantown offers a great CFB atmosphere with some rowdy fans. If they’re looking to save some of the previously mentioned teams for later weeks, this could get some consideration. Gameday hasn’t been to Morgantown since 2014, which was one of the best in recent memory.
Florida St. Vs. Boise State (Jacksonville)
Likelihood: 1%
Boise State and Florida State have 2 of the best fanbases in CFB. If they’re really trying to catch us off guard this could be the pick. This should be a pretty competitive game with two teams who have a chance to be ranked in the 20s at some point this season.
