Top Big 12 Prospects For The 2019 NFL Draft
The Big 12 Conference offers some really solid talent this season headlined by potential No. 1 pick Kyler Murray. WVU has a deeper class than usual, Oklahoma offers 4 potential starters on the Offensive Line, and ISU has two really highly touted offensive weapons with first round potential.
Players are in order of RedCup’s latest Mock Draft.
Kyler Murray QB Oklahoma
RedCup’s Mock Draft: Round 1 Pick 1 Arizona Cardinals
Pick Range: Top 5
Role: Dual Threat QB
Murray’s status as the No. 1 Pick may be in jeopardy, and on the off chance the Cardinals do not take him, a team will likely trade into the Top 5 for the scrambling QB.
Cody Ford OT Oklahoma
RedCup’s Mock Draft: Round 1 Pick 21 Seattle Seahawks
Pick Range: 20-40
Role: Pro Bowl Tackle
Ford has the athleticism and size to be a potential Pro Bowler. He has some mechanics to improve upon but saying he could one day be an elite tackle is not out of the question.
Marquise Brown WR Oklahoma
RedCup’s Mock Draft: Round 1 Pick 26 Indianapolis Colts
Pick Range: 20-40
Role: Offensive Playmaker
Brown is the most electric WR prospect in the class. According to multiple reports, he could have likely beat the 40 yards dash record if healthy. He could have a Tyreke Hill like impact.
David Montgomery RB Iowa State
RedCup’s Mock Draft: Round 1 Pick 27 Oakland Raiders
Pick Range: 25-50
Role: 3 Down RB1
Montgomery is the most complete back in the class. His vision and ability to shed defenders along with above average skills as a receiver will allow him to thrive in almost any situation.
Dalton Rinser OT Kansas State
RedCup’s Mock Draft: Round 2 Pick 37 New York Giants
Pick Range: 30-45
Role: Starting Tackle
Rinser doesn’t have the athletic upside as the elite OT prospects, but he may be better Day 1. He rarely missed a block at KSU and would be a great pickup in the second round.
Hakeem Butler WR Iowa State
RedCup’s Mock Draft: Round 2 Pick 42 Cincinnati Bengals
Pick Range: 30-60
Role: Redzone Threat
Butler is unguardable when thrown a good ball. At 6’6” with an insane highpoint, he will be tough to stop if he can create separation.
Charles Omenihu DT Texas
RedCup’s Mock Draft: Round 2 Pick 45 Atlanta Falcons
Pick Range: 40-65
Role: Run-Stuffer
Omenihu Omenihu is a physical DT/DE prospect with very good size. His lack of consistent impact at Texas is concerning, but the potential more than enough to warrant a 2nd-3rd round pick.
Will Grier QB WVU
RedCup’s Mock Draft: Round 2 Pick 47 Carolina Panthers
Pick Range: 32-60
Role: Starting QB
Grier has been a relatively forgotten about as an elite QB prospect. He’s a bit older as a prospect, but without any major holes in his game it’s tough to see why. His ideal scenario would likely to sit a year then take over as QB1.
Yodny Cajuste OT WVU
RedCup’s Mock Draft: Round 2 Pick 49 Cleveland Browns
Pick Range: 30-55
Role: Starting Tackle
Yodny is a long armed and athletic OT that projects as a Day one starter. He lacks bend and needs to improve upon his balance as a run blocker before he can take the next step.
L.J. Collier DE/DT TCU
RedCup’s Mock Draft: Round 3 Pick 78 Carolina Panthers
Pick Range: 60-90
Role: Interior Pass-Rusher
Non-TCU fans probably didn’t hear much about Collier, but he had a great season for the Horned Frogs. His ability to create pressure in the interior as a power rusher will give him a role in the NFL.
Justice Hill RB Oklahoma State
RedCup’s Mock Draft: Round 3 Pick 79 Miami Dolphins
Pick Range: 70-100
Role: Plus Rotational Back
Hill has the quickness to be a dynamic player in the screen game. Hill’s ability to keep defenders guessing and hold onto the ball will keep him in the league.
David Sills WR WVU
RedCup’s Mock Draft: Round 3 Pick 88 Chicago Bears
Pick Range: 80-110
Role: Redzone Threat
Sills has been the most productive red zone WR in the Big 12 the past two seasons and could have similar success in the NFL. If he can create separation from NFL DB’s he will be tough to stop.
David Long III LB WVU
RedCup’s Mock Draft: Round 3 Pick 92 Los Angeles Chargers
Pick Range: 80-120
Role: Heatseeking MLB
The reigning Big 12 DPOY. If Long was a few inches taller he would be in the conversation for a Top 15 pick. He sees the game in a different way and could be a huge steal in the 3rd round.
Ben Powers OG Oklahoma
RedCup’s Mock Draft: Round 3 Pick 99 Jacksonville Jaguars
Pick Range: 70-110
Role: Starting interior OL
Powers would be a great pickup in the 3rdor 4thround for a team looking for experienced OG play. Powers has started 36 games for the Sooners and could have a long NFL career.
Gary Jennings WR WVU
RedCup’s Mock Draft: Round 4 Pick 105
Pick Range: 90-140
Role: Move-The-Chains WR
Jennings has been quietly trending up big boards and could even find himself easily as a Day 2 Pick. He performed great at the combine and reportedly interviewed very well.
Dru Samia OG Oklahoma
RedCup’s Mock Draft: Round 4 Pick 125
Pick Range: 100-140
Role: Fringe Starter at OG
Another Oklahoma O-Lineman who could find himself as a Day 1 starter. He will likely move to guard in the NFL. Was credited with being the vocal leader for an elite Oklahoma offensive line.
Rodney Anderson RB Oklahoma
RedCup’s Mock Draft: Round 4 Pick 135
Pick Prediction 100-150
Role: Buy-Low potential RB1
Anderson was labeled by many as the best RB in the class prior to his injury. Potential 2ndround talent as a Day 3 pick. His draft stock is largely up to debate due to his injury.
Kris Boyd CB Texas
RedCup’s Mock Draft: Round 5 Pick 146
Pick Prediction 140-180
Role: Physical Corner
There is a good chance Boyd will move to safety in the NFL. He has great size and physicality for a DB, but hasn’t shown the speed to keep up with NFL WRs
Bobby Evans OT Oklahoma
RedCup’s Mock Draft: Round 5 Pick 148
Pick Prediction 130-160
Role: Rotational OT
Oklahoma’s 4thOffensive Lineman prospect. What are they feeding these kids? Evans is the least polished out of the group but could still be an eventual starter. He will likely try his hand at RT, but at 6’4” he may be forced to be a OG.
Ben Banogu DE TCU
RedCup’s Mock Draft: Round 5 Pick 149
Pick Prediction 140-170
Role: D-Line Depth
Banogu is an athletic pass-rusher with good quickness who can provide some good depth for any NFL team. Whether or not he can develop rushing off the corner will determine his ceiling.
