Buzz Williams Departures Blacksburg for Texas A&M
After a tough loss at the hands of the Duke Blue Devils 75-73 on a missed tip in, it was becoming more and more evident that Buzz Williams was on the verge of leaving. These suspicions became a reality for the fans of Virginia Tech and Texas A&M alike when news broke of William’s decision. The now former coach of the Hokies will be taking the head coaching job at College Station, with an official announcement Thursday from Texas A&M.
At his tenure at Virginia Tech, manged to pull the Hokies from 11-22 all the way to 26-9, with the school’s second ever trip to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Tournament. And all together at Virginia Tech, Buzz Williams was able to go a solid 100-69. Most would say, when talking about William’s placement in Blacksburg, that the took a completely dead program and revamped it to new levels.
Now, with Buzz Williams out of the picture in Blacksburg, the Virginia Tech Athletic Director is needing to find a new head basketball coach. Some of the names in the pool now include: Kevin Willard (Seton Hall), Mick Cronin (Cincinnati), and Steve Wojciechowski (Marquette). It may be a bit too early to say, but it seems that the main favorites among the fans are Cronin and Wojciechowski, with the reasons behind the two bobbing each into the spotlight.
