Even Through Loss, Purdue’s Edwards Proves Worth
After last night’s heartbreaking 80-75 overtime loss to UVA in the Elite Eight. It was the end of a historic season for Purdue and their star player Carsen Edwards. Edwards had an outstanding season, averaging 24 points, three rebounds, and two assists. While Edwards did have a very good season, his performance in the NCAA Tournament was special. Let’s take a look and see how impressive Edwards was in the Tournament.
Last night Edwards was put in the national spotlight scoring 42 points including hitting 10 threes in that performance. Those performances have been nothing new for Edwards in the NCAA Tournament. Edwards had another huge performance in the Round of 32, scoring 42 against defending champion Villanova. Edwards also scored 22 in Round of 64 against Old Dominion and 29 points against Tennessee in the Sweet 16.
Edwards also broke several NCAA Tournament records. He now has the record for most three pointers made in the Tournament, then crushed the record for 3 points field goals made per tournament game, and became the first player in college basketball history to make nine or more three pointers in multiple games.
Edwards was also named Most Outstanding Player of the South Region, becoming the first player to take home those honors despite not being a member of the winning team since Steph Curry in 2008.
Since Edwards in a junior we could see him back for one more year at Purdue, but considering his insane performances in this year’s Tournament. He will most likely be looking ahead to the upcoming NBA Draft in June.
