2019 Big East Tournament: Day 3 Preview and Predictions
Day number two of the 2019 Big East Tournament produced some blowouts. However, there have still been some quality games played throughout the week. Tonight’s prize for both winners will be a ticket to the championship game tomorrow evening. All four of the teams will be laying everything on the line to try to advance.
Semifinal 1
Who: No. 4 Xavier vs. No. 1 Villanova
When: Friday, March 15 at 6:30 PM ET
Where: Madison Square Garden- New York, NY
Watch: Fox Sports 1
Preview: Despite being the higher seed, the Musketeers found themselves as the underdog going into Thursday’s battle with Creighton. Xavier was able to squeak out a two point win in what was Thursday’s most exciting game. Xavier forward Zach Hankins led the team with 22 points. If they want to knock off the defending national champs, he’ll need to have another outstanding performance. Villanova had guard Collin Gillespie and forward Eric Paschall combine for 39 points, which was the key that propelled them to victory against a pesky Providence that would not give in. Jay Wright would like to see production spread out across his starting five, however, as the Friars held Saddiq Bey scoreless, fouling him out in the process. This game can be close, but the Wildcats shouldn’t have major problems taking the win.
Preview: Villanova defeats Xavier 70-56
Semifinal 2
Who: No. 3 Seton Hall vs. No. 2 Marquette
When: Friday, March 15 at 9:00 PM ET
Where: Madison Square Garden- New York, NY
Watch: Fox Sports 1
Preview: This is going to be a shootout. If you’re looking for something to do tonight, tuning into this would be a good idea. Seeing the battle take place between scoring stars Myles Powell (SHU) and Markus Howard (MU) will certainly be quite entertaining. These two being able to score will be vital to both team’s success. This one will come down to who can score more efficiently. Each team’s supporting role will lead to success, as depending on one player in this scenario is not very sound. The war in the trenches between Seton Hall’s Sandro Mamukelashvili and Marquette’s Theo John will also likely be intriguing. Foul trouble could make things interesting, so make sure to look out for that.
Prediction: Seton Hall defeats Marquette 81-80
