AAC Tournament: Day 2 Preview and Predictions
After a very interesting day of games, four teams moved on to day two. UConn moved on with a comfortable victory over South Florida. Memphis also moved on to day two with a blowout win over Tulane. SMU also got a very comfortable win to move on to day 3 over Tulsa. While Wichita State got a blowout win over East Carolina.
UConn(16-16)(6-12 Conf.) vs Houston(29-2)(16-2 Conf.)
Houston was probably the most underrated team in the nation during the regular season. They will put a beating on this weak defensive team in UConn. Houston has a pretty good offense averaging 76 points a game, while UConn gives up 70 points a game. The Houston defense is also very good as they only allow 61 points a game which is good for 11th in the nation. I think it is a pretty safe bet that Houston wins this game. Huskies: 65 Cougars: 76
Memphis(20-12)(11-7 Conf.) vs UCF(23-7)(13-5 Conf.)
Memphis’s offense is very potent, as the Tigers average 81 points a game. While UCF is very stout on defense, as the Knights only allowing 63 points a game. UCF also should be able to take advantage of a very poor Memphis defense as the Tigers allow 76 points a game. UCF should be able to dominate Memphis on the offensive and defensive end and pick up an easy win to move on to day 3. Tigers: 70 Knights: 82
SMU(15-16)(6-12 Conf.) vs Cincinnati(25-6)(14-4 Conf.)
Cincinnati has a very good defense that only allows 62 points a game. They should also be able to have their way against a weak SMU offense that only averages 71 points a game. SMU also has a very poor defense that allows 70 points a game. I don’t see anyway how SMU wins this game and they will be blown out by a very good Cincinnati team. Bearcats: 75 Mustangs: 60
Wichita State(18-13)(11-8 Conf.) vs Temple(23-8)(13-5 Conf.)
Temple has one thing they can take advantage of in this game and that is Wichita’s state poor offense. The Shockers only average 70 points a game. The Shockers also don’t have that great of a defense either allowing 69 points a game. Temple will be able to take advantage of this with leading scorer Shizz Alston Jr. who averaged 19 points a game on the year. Wichita State will put up a good fight in this game, but it will not be enough as Temple will find a way to win this game. Owls: 70 Shockers: 65
