Washington State Adds Transfer QB
Just 10 months ago, Mike Leach landed the most underrated QB in all of College Football in Gardner Minshew and led Washington State to a lot of success in 2018. Fast forward 11 months later and Leach has done it again. But this time, he didn’t have to go to the other side of the country to get him. Gubrud was in his own backyard.
Gabe Guburd let it be known yesterday that he will be transferring to Washington State University. Gubrud is among the top QB’s in all of FCS these past 3 seasons and has put up some amazing stats. His Sophomore season, he threw for 5,160 yards and 48 touchdowns to go along with 606 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns. He was a FCS All-American, Walter Payton Award Finalist (Placed 3rd) and was FCS Player of The Year. His leading receiver that year was also Los Angeles Ram, WR Cooper Kupp. Guburd struggled through injury in 2017 for parts of the season, but still put up really good numbers with 3,342 yards and 26 touchdowns through the air. Guburd was also Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year in both 2016 and 2017.
This is an ideal fit for Guburd as Eastern Washington and Washington State have two very similar offenses. Very pass heavy and let their QB chuck it downfield. This also won’t be the first time Guburd and Washington State will be on the same field together.
The start of Guburd’s magical 2016 season was in Pullman when Eastern Washington upset Washington State, 45-42. Gunburd had the best game of his career in that building where he threw for 474 yards and 5 touchdowns. The irony of Gunburd being in the crimson and grey rather than playing against it should make things very interesting for Cougar fans.
