No.9 Virginia Tech Takes on Georgia Tech in ACC Showdown
After beating Boston College 77-66 to start undefeated in ACC play Virginia Tech (13-1)(2-0) looks to continue to stay undefeated in ACC play before a rivalry showdown with Virginia. While Georgia Tech (9-5)(1-0) is coming off a 92-79 win over Wake Forest and look to defend home court against the Hokies.
Why Virginia Tech Can Win:
The Hokies have to watch out for Georgia Tech’s sneaky good defense as the Yellow Jackets only give up 63 points a game so far this season. The Hokies should be able to take advantage of a lackluster Georgia Tech offense. As the Yellow Jackets average only 72 points a game this season, while Virginia Tech only allows 57 points a game.
Why Georgia Tech Can Win:
If the Yellow Jackets wants to pull of an upset they must take advantage of Virginia Tech in the first half. Virginia Tech has known to have had low scoring first half and then have a high scoring second half this season. Also Georgia Tech must find a way to score points against a Virginia Tech defense who ranks fifth in the nation in points allowed.
Players to Watch:
I would like to see more efficiency out of Virginia Tech guard Justin Robinson in this game. As the senior guard has averaged 13 points, three rebounds, and six assists but only shooting 45% from the field and 47% from the three point line.
If Georgia Tech wants to pull off the upset they must get a more efficient scoring game from guard Jose Alvarado. Alvarado has averaged 13 points, three assists, three rebounds, and one steal while only shooting 42% from the field and 24% from the three point line.
Writers Predictions:
Will Cash: I don’t give Georgia Tech a chance in this game against Virginia Tech. As one big example in the level of talent between these two teams is that Virginia Tech played Gardner-Webb earlier in the season and beat them 87-59, while Georgia Tech lost to Gardner-Webb 79-69. That’s enough for me to take the Hokies by a big margin. Hokies: 80 Yellow Jackets: 64
