Takeaways from WVU’s 18-34 loss to Syracuse
First of all Thank You to the Seniors. This is one of the best teams that WVU has put out in the past 20 years and we shouldn’t forget that. This team has 5-6 players who are going to be on NFL rosters next season and will be remembered for a long time.
Now to the game.
With Grier, Jennings, and Cajuste skipping the game, this wasn’t exactly a fair fight. A late scratch of No. 3 reciever Marcus Simms and one of our better defenders in Kenny Robinson making an absurd late tackle put us at an even larger disadvantage.
Yikes.
Now For Takeaways:
First Takeaway: I had the Over. It was 67.5. It missed by 45 miles. Is this important to you? Probably not. Do you care? I doubt it. But just something I wanted to share.
Defense was very good, especially in the first half. We we’re applying pressure every snap and really roughing up Eric Dungey. Cuse had some crazy plays and we missed some tackles, but all in all very solid performance against one of the best QBs in the country.
Allison showed some flashes of being a really good QB, but also struggled as expected. Without our top receivers and All American LT, the offense was just not as good. Thats not his fault. My biggest concern with him is he didn’t really show anything outside of the pocket. Long term I think he’ll be a great QB. This offseason will be crucial.
Dana was calling the offensive plays with Spivital gone. I love Dana. That being said, not something I want to see in the future. Seeing McKoy get stuffed 3 yards behind the line twice then throwing it deep is not an offense I’d like to instill moving forwards.
Assuming you we’re watching it on ESPN you know the announcers we’re painfully bad. Also not about the game just caused a lot of pain.
Dante Sills is going to be a very good player. The True Freshman was applying pressure all game and could be an All-Big 12 type player next season. Really excited about this kid.
Alabama transfer T.J. Simmons had 6 catches for 64 yards. Thats a great sight as he’ll likely be WR2 next season.
This is a team we’ll remember for a long time. 8-1 at one point with an outside chance at the CFB Playoffs. It ended with 3 consecutive punches in the face, but the ride was fun and the games we’re electric. Lets Go Mountaineers.
