McClung shines with 38 points in overtime victory
Georgetown frosh Mac McClung has had immense hype surrounding his college basketball debut this season. The hooper from Gate City, Virginia went viral online with flashy dunks and absurd performances while in high school.
However, the high school star has not been dominating as many were expecting him to do for the Hoyas this season. Prior to today’s matchup with Arkansas-Little Rock, which Georgetown would win in overtime 102-94, McClung had only averaged 10 points and less than 2 assists per game. Some have hastily written him off as a future star due to his performance so far.
Mac hasn’t seemed to let this get to him, though, as he scored 38 points, shooting 10 for 21 from the field. The guard was able to draw fouls successfully, with 14 of his points coming from the line. In addition to a wild scoring performance, McClung racked up 3 assists, 2 steals, and a block.
This performance was a welcomed sight for many, including Georgetown fans who viewed McClung as their ticket back to being one of college basketball’s powerhouse programs. Maybe this showing was just the boost of momentum Mac needed to propel him into a larger, more consistent role for the Hoyas.
