Hokies Cancel Future Road Games with ECU
Today it was announced by Virginia Tech’s AD, Whit Babcock, that the school would cancel future road dates with ECU. These dates would include next years matchup in Greenville, a road game in 2023, and another road matchup in 2025. This came as a expected, but still shocking, event after the recent cancellation of ECU to Blacksburg due to Hurricane Florence. However, Virginia Tech has decided to leave their home matchups with the Pirates alive and puts the decision of those once more into ECU’s hands.
This takes us to another point for the Hokies and their scheduling. Now Virginia Tech will play two FCS opponents in one season since they did so in 1985 (Richmond and East Tennessee State). This not only weakens the strength of schedule for Virginia Tech, but could provide problems money wise. Even some ticket sales have increased in price due to the lost money of last years game. Some going up as much as 8 times their original amount.
Was Virginia Tech’s AD Whit Babcock too hard on the Pirates scheduling change last year? What does this do for the Hokies next season and will it help them or hurt them?
