Potential Justin Field Landing Spots
Today rumors surfaced that Georgia QB Justin Fields will likely transfer after this season. Fields will be one of the biggest transfers in CFB history as last season 247 Sports listed Fields as the No. 2 Prospect in the nation (behind Trevor Lawerence) and the No. 8 ranked Prospect since 1996. Wow.
Fields is the type of player who can provide a team with elite QB play for the next 3 seasons and maybe even a high NFL draft pick. He is currently projected as the No. 1 Pick in many 2020 NFL mock drafts.
Here are some likely transfer destinations:
Note: He will likely not be able to play for an SEC school unless he decides to spend a year in JUCO due to NCAA transfer rules.
Oklahoma:
Lincoln Riley has turned Walk-on Baker Mayfield and Baseball Star Kyler Murray into Heisman winners. What do you think he could do with the 8th Best Prospect in the past 20 Years? Junior Austin Kendall is the likely starter next season, but odds are Fields would be able to beat him out in 2020 after his redshirt season. The Big 12 would allow him to put up monster numbers and Oklahoma could give him a chance to make the playoffs like they have the previous two seasons.
Ohio State:
Haskins will either be gone this season or next, leaving an opening for Fields. OSU is a perennial contender and Fields could help them get that last piece and potentially make the CFB Playoffs. He would need to beat out Tate Martell who was the No. 2 Dual Threat prospect after Tua in the prior class. Fields would likely win, but that would be a fun training camp battle to watch.
Florida State
Believed to be Field’s Top non-SEC choice, Florida State has been bad of late, but is historically one of the best programs in CFB. Field’s talent can change the storyline of the program and get them back to contending for a conference championship. Not a Football reason, but who wouldn’t want to go to college in Florida?
Penn State:
PSU was believed to be Field’s second non-SEC choice when he was being recruited. Maybe he still feels that way…. McSorley is gone and Fields would take control of a team that is routinely in contention at the top of the Big Ten.
WVU:
Transfer U. Everyone was shocked when Florida transfer Grier choose WVU, and he had one of the best seasons in CFB. Maybe Dana catches lighting in a bottle again and lands Fields. The Big 12 is very QB friendly and Fields could step in and lead a pass happy offense right away. Players that transfer to Morgantown have historically had tremendous success.
Georgia Tech
Fields is a Georgia native and Triple Option master Paul Johnson is now gone. Is there a legitimate chance that he even looks at GT? Probably not, but its worth mentioning.
JUCO
When being recruited, he only officially toured 3 schools. Georgia, Bama, and LSU. All SEC schools. If Fields really wants to play in the SEC, maybe he will spend a season in junior college and work his way back as the best JUCO prospect in CFB history.
