Offensive Players to Watch:
Georgia Southern: Wesley Fields, the Eagles running back, has showcased his unique skill set this season for the fans. In his games, he has shown a balanced ability to run the ball efficiently and to catch-and-go immensely. Fields has 959 rushing yards, 9 rushing touchdowns, 237 receiving yards, and 1 receiving touchdown. With the stats shown, it is clear the Fields yields a great deal of productivity for the Georgia Southern offense, especially when they take on weak rushing defenses. And luckily for them, that is exactly what Fields will get to face with the Eastern Michigan defense.
Eastern Michigan: The Eagle of Eastern Michigan know they can excel at one phase offensively with Tyler Wiegers. This would of course be the passing attack they implemented on many teams this season. The Eastern Michigan team needs to keep in their head that Georgia Southern allows around 217.6 passing yards a game. With this said, it is important Wiegers stays on track to have a successful game for not only himself, but for the offensive unit. Wiegers sits at 1,887 passing yards with 11 passing touchdowns thrown throughout the year. Watch for Eastern Michigan to push the importance of Wiegers’s air raid against Georgia Southern.
Defensive Players to Watch:
Georgia Southern: Logan Hunt has ran the defensive end spot for the Eagle’s 3-4 defensive look. With constant pressure on a pass heavy team, it’ll be valuable if Hunt can cause some pressure. Hunt has pressed up 29 total tackles, 6.5 tackles-for-loss, and 5.0 sacks this season. The push to continue on this impressive trail will be one of the primary focuses for a Georgia Southern team looking to stay undefeated in bowl games. If Hunt can impose a heavy pressure in the Eastern Michigan backfield come Saturday, it may throw off their air raid and seal a victory.
Eastern Michigan: Jeremiah Harris that works the BULL spot for the Eastern Michigan Eagles will be of upmost importance come Saturday. Harris has shown an imperative skill of locking down inside and outside rushing lanes. Not only does he amount for the rush, his pass defense is great too. Jeremiah Harris has collected 58 total tackles, 7.0 tackles-for-loss, 5.0 sacks, and 1 interception. If anything is a tell-tale sign of how he might do against this Georgia Southern offense, it would line in those stats. Be on the lookout for Harris to try to keep himself off the field for as long as possible with the help of Maxx Crosby (the snubbed pick).
The Basics
Georgia Southern looks better on paper and in game play. The Eagles average 31.1 points a game and have an imposing rushing attack. This is important because Eastern Michigan seems to not be able to handle heavy-rush teams. It shows quite clearly with their rushing yards allowed sitting at a ghastly 192.9 a game. Eastern Michigan will keep it interesting, but I feel that big plays for the Georgia Southern team will give them the edge. Watch for a surprising classic with this one.
Score Prediction
