- Tulane leads series 22-4
Offensive Players to Watch:
Tulane: I think it really revolves around Justin McMillan for the Green Wave offense. It is seen in their games that when McMillan finds a way to work at a high productivity a win usually follows. On the season, McMillan sits at a 1,159 passing yard mark and has throw 9 touchdowns, as well. It looks like the Green Wave will look to use McMillan in new ways in the bowl this year to help take out a decent pass defense. However, this should yield only the best results from a junior quarterback looking to make a name for himself.
Louisiana-Lafayette: Andre Nunez takes the snaps for the Ragin’ Cajuns this season. However, when coming into a bowl to play a team with great rush defense you must look to pass. Nunez will step into the Camping World Stadium with 2,136 passing yards and 19 touchdowns. The Ragin’ Cajuns need to focus most of their attention to developing an early pass attack to keep this Tulane team on their heels and forcing them to score. It isn’t easy for fans to overlook Nunez, but on Saturday, this won’t be the case.
Defensive Players to Watch:
Tulane: Patrick Johnson runs the defensive end position for Tulane and is setting up to have a great game. This kid shows consistently that he can cause a strong sense of pressure in the backfield against his opponents. And so far this season, Johnson has recorded 10.0 sacks, 15.5 tackles-for-loss, with 46 total tackles. This means that it is almost a sure thing that Patrick Johnson will show up in his fullest form Saturday to secure a bowl win.
Louisiana-Lafayette: It won’t be a surprise if Tulane jumps back to trying to use their QB running system. In knowing this, I think it is valuable for the Ragin’ Cajuns if linebacker Jacques Boudreaux to have a good game. And thus far, Boudreaux has shown that he can do exactly that has he has racked up 87 total tackles and 4.5 tackles-for-loss. The shift will be to take away any rush attack from Tulane and make it a one-dimensional passing game. Watch for Boudreaux to excel in this game to give his team the edge.
The Basics
This game is balanced for the most part. However, Tulane has played the better between the two as of recently. Also, this Green Wave team is more in tune to hold the Ragin’ Cajuns to lesser offensive production. Tulane will pull out some trick plays and a lot of RPO to confuse this Louisiana-Lafayette defense that can crumble fast. This will be an entertaining game, but the Green Wave walk away with the win.
Score Prediction
33-24 Tulane
