Virginia Tech Defending Cassell Against VMI
No. 15 Virginia Tech (6-1) will set up shop and looks to improve to seven wins against VMI (5-4). Virginia Tech is coming off a dominant victory over Central Connecticut with a score of 94-40. And the Keydets of VMI have substantiated a losing streak of two games before their trip.
How Virginia Tech Can Win
Stay on track. If the Hokies can just do what they’ve been doing recently against teams, they should be fine. Virginia Tech is able to score tons of points fast, pass around the ball often, and shoot at a high percentage. Also, the Hokies have a knack to cause turnovers, so watch out for those as well.
How VMI Can Win
Take better shots and score a lot. The Keydets have had their ups and downs this season in terms of games. However, in some of their losses they have put up a decent number of points. If VMI wants any chance, they’ll have to do just that. VMI sits at 78.2 points a game at the moment and need to bump that up to upset the Hokies.
Players to Watch
Virginia Tech: On lesser opponents, Ahmed Hill tends to run up his stat line to great numbers. Hill runs more so of the big guard spot for Virginia Tech and can shoot at a high percentage. So far, Hill averages 14.4 points and 2.9 rebounds.
VMI: Bubba Parham runs the guard spot for the Keydets and can put up great amounts of points. Parham isn’t a traditional guard, in that he basically runs everything for the VMI offense. This season, Parham has averaged 23.0 points a game, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.0 assists.
Score Prediction
Virginia Tech has played very consistently against opponents that aren’t at their caliber. I think the Hokies come prepared and solidify another dominant win. VMI will pick up their fifth loss and continue to trend downward. Virginia Tech 85, VMI 57
