Mack Brown Returning to North Carolina as Head Coach 30 Years After His First Stint With Tar Heels
Former Texas Head Coach, Mack Brown, will be returning to Chapel Hill to be the head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels 30 years after his first stint with UNC.
Brown, 67, will make his return to Chapel Hill with plans to make UNC a powerhouse program. Rumors surrounding the hire suggest that Brown will bring along Gene Chizik as Defensive Coordinator. And with the recent firing of former Texas Tech head coach, Kliff Kingsbury, Brown may look to bring him in as Offensive Coordinator.
Brown had a successful tenure in his first go round with North Carolina. Beginning as head coach in 1988, Brown led North Carolina to 8 consecutive winning seasons. As well as culminating top 10 rankings in 1996 and 1997. Brown was then hired by Texas. Where he would coach for 16 seasons with an 158-48 record and one national title. Mack Brown resigned from Texas in 2013 and has been a commentator for ESPN ever since.
So, could this be a start of an era at UNC? We’ll just have to see. Until 2019, Heels fans!
