Projecting The Top 10 After An Unbelievable Rivarly Week
What would you have said if Saturday morning, I told you that Michigan would let up 62 to Ohio State and LSU would score 72 points and lose? Good thing nobody said that.
After a crazy, and hectic yet entertaining rivalry week, let’s try our best to unravel everything that occurred and organize the rankings.
LOCK
We will start with the givens, and that is the top 3 remaining unchanged. Top ranked Alabama defeated Auburn in the iron bowl, 52-21. 6 total touchdowns for the heisman front runner. Number 2 Clemson picked up a win over rival South Carolina, defeating the Gamecocks 56-35 in another game with little to no defense. Number 3 Notre Dame survived a nail biter over the pesky USC Trojans, 24-17. So the top 3 should most likely remain stagnant.
The 4 Spot, and next 2 out
The 4 spot and first two out now have a lot of controversy and possibilities. I’m assuming that Georgia will move up to 4 since they were 5 and looked dominant in their 45-21 win over Georgia Tech. 5 and 6 could go either way. You may think it doesn’t matter, but it very well could come selection day. Oklahoma and Ohio State both had impressive wins over the weekend.
Oklahoma went on the Road to defeat 13 ranked West Virginia, 59-56. Ohio State destroyed arch rival Michigan, 62-39.
As of now, my guess is as good as anyone’s, but I’ll say the Sooners move up to 5 from the number 6 spot, and Ohio State replaces them at 6, leaping from number 10 after a big win.
Outside Looking In
Teams that still have an outside shot, but it’s looking bleak, include group of 5 powerhouse UCF, as well as Michigan. I can’t really foresee a scenario where Michigan gets in, but I won’t rule it completely out the window. LSU would be here as well, but they lost their 7OT thriller to Texas A&M. UCF could also sneak in, but they do not exactly control their own destiny.
What to Expect Tuesday
Rankings, in my opinion, will look like this…
- Alabama (12-0)
- Clemson (12-0)
- Notre Dame (12-0)
- Georgia (11-1)
- Oklahoma (11-1)
- Ohio State (11-1)
- UCF (12-0)
- Michigan (10-2)
- Florida (9-3)
- Washington (9-3)
What’s On Tap For Next Week?
Washington vs Utah – PAC 12 Title
Oklahoma vs Texas – Big 12 Title
Ohio State vs Northwestern – Big 10 Title
UCF vs Memphis – AAC Title
Alabama vs Georgia – SEC Title
Clemson vs Pittsburgh – ACC Title
Should be an exciting, chaotic ending to a season that was just that.
