LSU Improves to 5-0 Behind 14 Points From Emmitt Williams

Entering this matchup with Charleston, LSU could not afford to treat this like any ordinary game. This was the Tiger’s first game away from home on the young season. In addition to that, LSU was taking on one of the better teams that they have faced this year. Last year, Charleston boasted a 26-7 record, won their conference, and made an NCAA tournament appearance. Fortunately for Will Wade, his squad showed up. LSU moved to 5-0 with their 67-55 win.

LSU started the game hot. The Tigers jumped out to a 16-5 lead and never looked back. Despite the fact that Charleston was able cut the Tiger lead to ten with 10:27 remaining in the game, The Tigers were able to preserve that lead for the rest of the second half and secure the victory.

A major reason for the Tigers victory was the balanced offensive attack. LSU had seven players who were able to score six or more points.

Emmitt Williams led his team with 14 points in the winning effort.

Tremont Waters continued his great play, matching a career high in assists with 11. Waters also scored eight points.

On the other hand, Charleston’s offense revolved around Jarrell Brantley. Brantley poured in 27 points, just three shy of matching his career high.

Neither team shot the ball particularly well. LSU shot just over 50 percent from the field and 30 percent from beyond the arc. Charleston shot 34 percent from the field and 21 percent from 3 point range.

Most of Charleston’s struggles on the offensive end can be credited to LSU’s stout defense. The Tigers gave up their least amount of points on the season at 57. LSU head coach Will Wade said his team’s defensive performance was “tremendous.”

Even though it wasn’t pretty, LSU got the job done.

The Tigers will put their perfect record on the line once again tomorrow. LSU will take on the winner of UAB and Florida State. The game will tip off tomorrow at 4:30 ET.
