Commitment Tracker: 2019 Forward, Jaden McDaniels
Texas’ hoops program has monopolized the recruiting landscape over Shaka Smart’s tenure. That said, their prospect pool has, and continues to lean towards frontcourt players. Especially now with experts forecasting a commitment from small-forward Jaden McDaniels (#6 overall prospect #1 power forward per ESPN).
On September 24th, McDaniels publicly released a list of five schools (via Instagram) consisting of UCLA, Texas, Kentucky, San Diego State, and Washington. Texas is atop the field, with San Diego State as a close second.
His fine motor skills, fluid offensive play style, and lengthy frame are Kevin Durant-esque. There’s some obvious wiggle room with that comparison, but their physical appearances and playstyles have distinct similarities. Regardless, another Durant-type player paired with an already stout recruiting class would turn Texas from a wanna-be contender to a Final Four caliber program. He wasn’t always seated on such a distinguished pedestal, though. A nationally advertised EYBL circuit fueled
McDaniels’ recruiting successes, as he averaged 19.2 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks while college scouts sat courtside.
Expect McDaniels to commit soon with recruiting season coming into full swing.
