UCF: Path to the Playoff
A hot topic of discussion recently, and for the last year now, is weather or not the UCF Knights are worthy to participate in the college football playoff. The jury is still out for that one, but they CAN still make it. If your a fan of UCF or just love an underdog story, here is what you should be cheering for:
Alabama, Clemson, and Notre Dame
If you are rooting for UCF to get in the playoff, then you probably think you need these teams to lose. Alabama and Clemson is who you should root to win out. It would be nice if the Notre Dame Fighting Irish could fall at USC, but that’s unlikely, so in this scenario, we have these three winning out.
Big Ten
For the Big 10 conference, UCF would need them to get left out for them to be in. The ideal scenario would be Ohio State defeating Michigan, and then losing to Northwestern.
Or, Michigan beating the Buckeyes and then losing to the Wildcats in the Big 10 Championship game down in Indianapolis. However, the more realistic scenario for them, and the next most ideal, would be Michigan losing down In Columbus. Then, Ohio State would have to either lose to Northwestern, or not play great against them.
Big 12
This one is a lot more simple. UCF should be rooting for West Virginia to knock off Oklahoma in Morgantown. That would eliminate the Big 12. And if Oklahoma pulls it out on the road in Morgantown, UCF needs to hope and pray that Texas knocks off OU again. This is easier said then done, but yet certainly possible.
PAC 12
If Washington State beats Washington and then wins the PAC 12 championship game, it’s over for UCF more likely than not. But if the Cougars lose either of those games, UCF has hope. So Knights fans, root for Washington State to get upset.
Overview
So, to get in, this sums up what needs to happen. UCF crushes South Florida. UCF crushes Houston/Memphis/SMU in AAC championship game.
Alabama (which eliminates Georgia) , Clemson, and Notre Dame just keep winning.
Michigan loses to Ohio State, and then Ohio State either A) loses to Northwestern in the Big 10 title game OR B) looks very sloppy against the Wildcats.
Washington State loses once, weather it’s Washington or the PAC 12 title game, they are out regardless.
Oklahoma loses to either West Virginia or Texas (again).
Weather you are someone who wants to see the underdog rise, or want to see UCF fall flat on it’s face against a quality team, we probably all want to see some chaos. A lot of chaos.
With chaos comes controversy. If UCF wins out and doesn’t get in there will be those who believe they need a chance and were snubbed.
If, and that’s a big IF, UCF does get in, there will be those angry, saying they don’t play anyone and hope for them to lose.
I’m just hoping for some good playoff football, no matter who is in.
Do you want UCF to get in?
