Georgia’s Postseason Predictions: According to Week 13 CFP Rankings
New Rankings
The new rankings have just been released and nothing has changed in the top-6. This weekend is the final week of the regular season. Alabama, Clemson, and Georgia are definitely going to win on Saturday. But Notre Dame, Michigan, and Oklahoma have tough games coming up. Notre Dame has to play at USC, Michigan has to play at #10 OSU, and Oklahoma plays at #13 WVU. These games might shake up the race for a playoff berth. Now how does this all relate back to Georgia?
What are the Odds?
As you know in order for Georgia to make it into the Playoffs they must beat #1 ranked Alabama. It seems like an almost impossible challenge for the Bulldogs. If they win, and no other teams in the top 4 have new losses, then Alabama is probably out of the playoffs. Georgia would most likely hop up to number 3 and play #2 Notre Dame. There’s a chance we could get a rematch of last year if Alabama sneaks in and takes Michigan’s spot. We will see in the upcoming weeks how this all plays out. But lets say that Georgia does lose to Alabama. Where would they end up? When Alabama beat LSU 29-0, they dropped 4 places all the way down to number 7. LSU now had 2 losses, and if Georgia losses then they would also have 2 losses and have the worst record between the top-6 teams. I’m afraid if Georgia doesn’t beat Alabama, there is basically no way for Georgia to make it in for the second year in a row. Georgia will most likely then play in the Sugar Bowl against Oklahoma. The Sugar Bowl is a SEC vs Big 12 game, and UGA and Oklahoma are the best teams in their conferences that aren’t in the CFP. December 1st will mark one of Georgia’s biggest games in a long time, and it will decide if Georgia has a shot for a title. It would take a miracle for Georgia to make it to the National Championship. But with a great rushing game, and a growing passing game, I think Georgia has a chance.
