Virginia Tech Slips By Purdue in the Charleston Classic Final
Virginia Tech defeats Purdue 89-83 in the final of the Charleston Classic on Sunday of November 18, 2018. Virginia Tech now advances to 4-0 on the season and starts off strong. Purdue moves to 3-1 and will look to get back after a tough loss.
Recap
For the longest time it looked as if Purdue was going to break away with the lead and the victory. Fortunately for the Virginia Tech Hokies, an early second half run set them up to take the lead by 2. This provided a strong push in momentum and motivated Virginia Tech to keep the lead for the rest of the game. The Hokies outscored the Boilermakers by 14 in the second half, which ensured their victory. Also, the Boilermakers didn’t surge as much as they would have hoped in the rebounding department, where they only captured 5 more than the Hokies. The thing that gave the Hokies the final edging over Purdue in the final minutes was on-ball pressure on defense and ability to make plays on the offensive side. Overall it was a great game for both teams and an amazing game for anyone who tuned in.
Player of the Game
Although Nickeil Alexander-Walker took home the Charleston Classic MVP, I would have to give it to Justin Robinson. Throughout the whole game Robinson made the plays and put the Hokies in certain spots to chip their way back into the game. Robinson had 23 points, 7-10 FG-Percentage, 3-5 from the arch, and 6 assists. I felt as if Justin Robinson pulled out the plays when needed for the Hokies and got it done.
