Red Cup Inbox: November 19, 2018
You, the fans, have asked and now you will receive. This week we got a nice blend of basketball and football that raises some great questions that deserve some answering. Let’s dive in:
“When did you start this whole thing?” – @_madisonmoris
I personally didn’t start it, but the man in charge, RedCup Mitch, did. Mitch worked hard over the summer to uproot his vision for a better and improved news platform. This meant getting followers for Instagram accounts, finding writers (such as myself), and promoting his brand on social media. The influences on our vision for the future of RedCup is to run similarly to SBNation or Barstool. Look for us to grow in branding and following in the coming months.
“Is Virginia Tech Basketball legit?” – @owen_hyder
After seeing that performance against Purdue, I don’t think anyone can deny it. Even with losses such as Chris Clarke and Landers Nolley, this Virginia Tech team is finding ways to piece together a winning format. And with this upcoming schedule I don’t think it would be a shock to see the Hokies sitting at 14-1 or 15-0 at the end of their non-conference stretch.
“Should LSU be ranked Top-10?” – @morrisonbraden
A win is a win. Whether or not I think LSU should be where they are, the Tigers sit at 9-2. They also have 2 wins against great ranked teams in Georgia and Mississippi State. With their only ranked losses coming to Alabama (not a surprise) and Florida (who was on a roll at the time). But to further answer your question: No. I personally don’t like to Tigers in the Top-10, but rather the Top-15. I don’t like their inconsistency on both sides of the ball that has shown up against Arkansas and Auburn.
“UCF v. Alabama. Who do you have?” – @saintsfanjayden
This could be happening if chaos ensues our season soon, but I think everyone’s answer remains the same. Alabama would win. However, UCF has fully earned my respect after a dominating win against Cincinnati on Saturday night. I would take Alabama in the the range of 21 to 28 points. This just because of the fact of what they have done to other teams like LSU or Mississippi State. I would like to see UCF compete to their fullest regardless of a possible playoff berth just because I feel like they have something special down there. Final Prediction: 45-7 Alabama.
“Do you think Minshew deserves Heisman?” – @petersen_trent
Yes. Although Minshew does play in an air-raid PAC-12 conference, this man has shown that he can burst numbers on all sides of passing. He sits at 4,325 passing yards, 70.4% passing completion, 7.48 yards a throw, 36 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. If that doesn’t scream Heisman to you, I don’t know what does. I partially think reason why he isn’t being talked about is due to PAC-12 exposure. Here on the east coast, I watch late night PAC-12 games rarely. If Minshew did this on the east coast, for an east coast team, he would have it in the bag.
“How will Texas Tech Basketball handle this year?” – @koltonpboyd
I think this Texas Tech has shown the ability to score and score fast already. This will be a threat to opposing defenses all in the Big 12. I feel that Jarrett Culver has this team primed for a tournament again. This Texas tech team, in my opinion, has the skill to go around 21-10. The only teams that will cause distraction would be Kansas, Arkansas, Kansas State, and TCU.
