No. 15 Virginia Tech Defeats Gardner-Webb off Strong 2nd Half Performance

Virginia Tech opens up their season with a dominate win vs Gardner-Webb winning 87-59. The Hokies started the game very slow. 8 minutes into the game the Hokies had scored only 12 points and the Hokies would eventually go into halftime only winning by 9. But Virginia Tech managed to turned things around in the 2nd half. Virginia Tech outscored Gardner-Webb in the second half 45-26. Freshman forward Isaiah Wilkins helped the Hokies tremendously by scoring 21 points. Wilkins was 7-10 from the field and hit 5 of his 7 3-pointers.
Player of the Game
The player of the game was Virginia Tech’s Nickeil Alexander-Walker. Nickeil scored 21 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished 5 assists. Nickeil played very aggressive scoring most of his points in the paint.

On Thursday the Hokies will head down to Charleston, South Carolina to play Ball State in the Charleston Classic Tournament.
Gardner-Webb will be headed to Furman to face the Paladins.
