No.15 Virginia Tech Opens Season Against Garder-Webb
No.15 Virginia Tech opens up the season against a unranked Gardner-Webb. The Bulldogs look to bounce back as they suffered a season opening loss to VCU.
Why Virginia Tech Can Win:
It would be a major upset if Virginia Tech lost this game. Tech returns with four of their last five leading scorer’s from last year. Gardner-Webb also allowed 69 points to VCU on Tuesday, which might not seem to bad, but this is a loaded Virginia Tech offense that should gash the Bulldog’s defense. Also look for Buzz Williams to run some of the offense through 6″10 Kerry Blackshear as Gardner-Webb does not have a player taller than 6″8.
Blackshear averaged 12.5 points a game last year and should dominate this game versus Gardner-Webb. He should get the majority of the touches in the Virginia tech offense on Friday night. If the Hokies want to avoid an upset on Friday night, they need Blackshear to be effective.
Prediction:
No upset here. Kerry Blackshear will dominate Gardner-Webb in the post. The Hokies three point shooting will gash the Gardner-Webb defense and the Hokies will start off the season with a easy win in Blacksburg.
