Pick Six: 6 Storylines to Follow into Week 11
This weekend of football heightened the sense of the end coming fast at us. With the College Football Playoffs only about nine weeks away, teams are scrambling to get their resume up for the committee. Also, teams are wanting to spoil their opponents chances, as well. This week proved to us who is here to play and who isn’t. Lets see what is the important stories to follow this week:
Gameday is Going Where?
Yes, Ladies and Gentlemen, College Gameday will be packing up and heading to Chestnut Hill. No, this isn’t a theme park, it is the home of the Boston College Eagles. This will be the game that most likely decides the division winner for the ACC Atlantic. Boston College comes off of a 10-point win after going on the road and beating Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. Clemson, on the other hand, back-handed Louisville by 61 and retained their undefeated record. The real question for this game is whether or whether not Boston College can keep it interesting. It’ll sure be an entertaining game to watch, regardless of the score.
Is Ohio State Declining?
The Ohio State Buckeyes are coming into this weekend after coming off a slim win against Nebraska. In what seemed like another improbable upset, the Buckeyes slid by 36-31 and managed to stay alive in the Big Ten East picture. However, Ohio State must throw this game behind them if they want to take down Michigan State. And Michigan State is on a roll after burying Maryland and Purdue. This Spartan team is looking hungry and is desperately wanting to put Ohio State down even more than they are. I am sure Michigan wants a Michigan State win here, sense they have already played them and they are sitting in a CFP spot currently. It’ll sure be a battle in East Lansing.
Two Teams Looking for a Come Up
Georgia and Auburn. These two met up last year in the SEC Championship game where Georgia won 28-7, after losing 40-17 only weeks earlier. I am confident that this game will have one of the two dominating in the game we had seen last year. Who will be the aggressor? I still am not sure. Auburn has looked strong in second halves, but Georgia is rolling after their fall to LSU. Georgia gets to host the Tigers at home and is hoping to maintain their rule over the SEC East. Whoever wants it will get the victory, but look for it to be a blowout. The real emphasis is WHO comes out on top.
5-0 to 5-5?
Colorado started the season as a relatively strong program with a (5-0) record and looking to capture the PAC-12 South. Unfortunately, a lot of things went wrong and they went wrong fast. The Buffaloes then dropped 4 to some great opponents and some really bad ones. Now they get to face the best team, currently, in the PAC-12, Washington State. Now we get to see how much the Buffaloes want to return to their former glory as in the beginning of the year. However, I think the Cougars will play a dominating spoiler against the Buffaloes push back to dominance.
Football after Durkin
Last week I included the Maryland scandal with D.J Durkin and what happened the very next day? Durkin was fired. This came as a shock to some, but not to many. Even after Durkin was reinstated, the school still felt as if he didn’t deserve a place among the Maryland team. The Maryland team then went on to take Michigan State on last weekend. Then something unusual happened: Maryland only put up 3 points. Is the result of bad playing from the firing and unsureness of the team’s leadership? No one knows except for the Maryland team.
Upset Part 2
Just a week after upsetting Texas on the road, Oklahoma State lost to Baylor by 4-points. This wasn’t a sure outcome for the Cowboys after seeming so great during the Texas game. Now Oklahoma State looks to upset Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. This will be a chance for Oklahoma State to reach bowl eligibility, as well as maybe hop into the CFP rankings with two top-10 wins. Look for a shootout with little to no defense between these two Saturday.
