Game Run Down:
We got the classic Big 12 shootout we wanted. With Big 12 title and playoff implications on the line, West Virginia and Texas played one of the better games we’ve seen yet this season. Will Grier and David Sills went toe-to-toe with Sam Ehlinger and Lil’Jordan Humphrey in a duel that saw 55 first half points scored. After going back and forth for much of the first half, the defenses tightened up in the second. Texas took a 34-27 lead early in the 4th, only to see WVU respond with a TD drive of their own. With two minutes left, Sam Ehlinger led a clutch drive that was capped off by a dime of a throw to Devin Duvernay to take a 41-34 lead. However, they left too much time for Will Grier and co. He led a drive for 6 with an even more impressive throw to Gary Jennings, and of course Dana Holgorsen decided to go for two. After 3 timeouts, Will Grier kept it on a QB draw and walked into the end zone to give WVU a huge win that nearly locks them into the Big 12 title game, as the ‘Eers impressed by being balanced on offense and playing some solid defense when needed. For Texas, they are a still a young team that will learn how to consistently win close games, but they still might be a year away from doing so.
