ACC Basketball Preview: Boston College
The Eagles are coming off a less-than-favorable season last year with a record of (19-16). however, things seems to be pointing in the right direction for this team as they are constantly adding new pieces. Boston College has a great recruiter in Jim Christian, who is bringing in top talent. It is all in the hands of the trusty core of Boston College to get them going this year and hopefully make a NCAA Tournament appearance.
Returning Players:
The 2018-19 Eagles team, quite literally, brings back all of their important pieces in exception of guard Jerome Robinson. This means that their star-guard in Ky Bowman will return to run the floor. Also, the team’s rebounders and front-court specialist, Steffon Mitchell and Nik Popovic, will be returning as well. These teams combined for an average (14.6) rebounds-a-game last year. And Boston College gets back a great supporting guard with Jordan Chatman, who had the highest FT% on the team with (.899). This looks like a good base core for the Eagles this year and it could do some damage.
Incoming Players:
Boston College has recruited three new players to better help them with their problems. First, we have a great guard in Wynston Tabbs who is a 3-star recruit out of St. Mary’s Ryken. I had the opportunity to watch Tabbs play in high school and am I sure glad I could. Tabbs has an ability to spread the court and make decisions quickly, which is important in guards. Next, we have the #14 small forward in the country with 4-star Jarius Hamilton out of Cannon School. Hamilton provided uncanny speed and power during his high school career and will look to bring the same to Boston College. Finally, we get to Chris Herren, Jr. who wasn’t on the official lists for recruiting, but should have been. Herren averaged 23.0 points in his high school stretch and looks to bring his offensive talent to the Eagles. This looks like a great class that is sure to work up this Boston College team in the future.
Key Games:
Dec. 4 v. Providence – This Providence team was one who shocked many last year with a record of (21-14), after losing much talent. Providence made it to the NCAA Tournament last year, something that BC couldn’t do. This makes this game a test to where Boston College is moving in the future.
Jan. 5 at Virginia Tech – This is Boston College’s first ACC game and their first road game of the season. Virginia Tech is ranked quite high for expectation and talent. If BC can go into Blacksburg and shut out this threat quickly, it would sure be interesting.
Jan. 30 v. Syracuse – Boston College has really struggled with Syracuse in the past few years, even with them not being at their once high stature. The beating that the Orange laid on BC last year was quite embrassing for the Eagles. This is the first game in a 2-game series this year between the two and BC is looking to capture the first.
Projected Season:
Record: 21-11
ACC Tournament: First Round
NCAA Tournament: First round
