Top POTY Candidates In 2018-19
With College Basketball approaching, let us take a look into some of the players most likely to take home player of the year award in the 2018-19 season.
Carsen Edwards
In my opinion, Carsen Edwards is the front runner for player of the year. Last year, Edwards led Purdue in scoring with 18.5 points per game. The PG will also have a lot more weight on his shoulders this year due to the departure of Issac Haarms, Vince Edwards, and Dakota Mathias. Because of this, Edwards’ stats will increase, therefore increasing his ability to win POTY.
Tyus Battle
Like Carsen Edwards, Tyus Battle carries much of the load for his team. In his Sophomore season, Battle averaged the most minutes in all of College Basketball while scoring 19.2 points per game. Although, if Battle is to win this award he will need to be more efficient. Last year, Battle shot under 40 percent from the field and under 35 percent from three.
Ethan Happ
In the 2016-17 season, Ethan Happ made the finalist list for Player Of The Year. It was thought that in his Junior season Happ would once again make a play for the prestigious award. However, due to a disappointing year for the Badgers, Happ fell in the POTY rankings. The Badgers return every contributor from last years squad. If Happ is able to continue to put up the numbers he had in previous seasons, he will surely be in the discussion for the award.
Markus Howard
Last year, Markus Howard scored 52 points in a single game. Need I say more? Howard is a prolific shooter who can drain a shot whenever he crosses half court. If Howard wins this award it will because of his video game like numbers. As a Sophomore, Howard scored 20 points and dished out just under 3 assists per game.
