The G-League is Offering a New Path for Top Prospects, Here’s What You Need to Know
The G-League, the NBA’s amateur association, will propose a 125K contract to elite high school prospects, active come the summer of 2019.
This not-so-cosmetic venture mingles with the end of the contemporary one-and-done, and a new draw for elite prospects pre-NBA.
Here are three things you need to know about the proposal.
1.) This is the beginning of the end of the “one-and-done” era, but not the end of college basketball. The sport will feel the ramifications of this in gross revenue and a decrease in viewers, but any claims of an extravagant nosedive are premature.
2.) The transitional period will have its bumps and bruises, as questions still linger about any franchise dibs from the G-League to the NBA, how many prospects will be granted admission and by what means is that decided.
3.) The expected 125K salary would be bush-league for NBA merit, but about 3.5 times the average G-League salary, not including the flood of endorsement deals and advertisements.
