Game Run Down:
The 2018 version of UW-Oregon lived up the hype. Oregon and Washington played a back and forth game that saw both running games take over in a matchup of two elite QBs. Justin Herbert didn’t have his best outing, but the Oregon offensive line and running game made up for it. CJ Verdell had a monster game running the ball, but so did the duo of Myles Gaskin and Salvin Ahmed. The two teams went back and forth in the first half, and a late Herbert TD pass tied the score up at 17. In the second half, both defenses tightened up, as two TDs in the third quarter were the only scoring. After a missed UW field goal in the closing seconds that saw a Mario Cristobal timeout save the day, we went into overtime. Washington had a first and goal on the one yard line, but the Duck defense bowed up and forced a field goal. Justin Herbert converted a 3rd and 11 to keep Oregon’s hopes alive, and the very next play, Verdell ran in a touchdown to seal it. With this win, Oregon now only needs to win out and for Stanford to lose another game, but the schedule is not a cake walk for the Ducks. Regardless, very impressive win for Oregon, especially with Justin Herbert not playing at his best. For Washington, the Huskies had some chances to win this one, but they let it slip. They now are eliminated from the Playoff hunt in all likelihood, but a Pac-12 title is still within reach with some help.
