5 Outstanding Performances from Week 5
Week 5 of college football brought the fans some exciting games and exciting individual performances. Let’s take a look at some of the top performers in week 5.
5. RB Jermar Jefferson- Oregon State
Jermar Jefferson entered the 2018 season as the backup running back on Oregon State’s depth chart. But, after the injury to then starter, Artavis Pierce in week 2, Jefferson took the world by surprise and stepped into the starting role quite impressively. Jefferson rushed for 238 yards in his first start. The freshman has rushed for 727 yards on the season, accounting for 8 rushing TD. Jermar Jefferson had a huge game against Arizona State, getting 31 carries and putting up 254 rush yards with a pair of rush touchdown. But, unfortunately in the end, Jefferson lost the RB battle.
4. RB Eno Benjamin- Arizona State
On the other end of the spectrum, Eno Benjamin clearly won the the RB battle and lead his team to victory over Oregon State. Benjamin also got honors of Pac 12 Offensive Player of the Week, and accounting for the most rushing yards in a single game in school history with his profound performance in week 5. The sophomore has been waiting for a breakout game, and Saturday was his day. Eno Benjamin had more rushing yards on Saturday than he did the previous four weeks. Benjamin had 312 rush yards on 30 attempts, averaging over 10 yards per carry, and adding three TD runs. He also had 3 catches for 27 receiving yards with a TD. Benjamin lead the Sun Devils to a dominating 59-24 win.
3. WR Greg Dortch- Wake Forest
Greg Dortch, the lightning quick receiver, showed why he is probably the top receiver in the ACC with his amazing performance on Saturday against Rice. Dortch leads the ACC in receptions and yards, dominating both stats. The sophomore has 45 catches, 555 yards, and 7 total touchdowns, including two punt return touchdowns. This game against Rice may have been his best game this season. Greg Dortch hauled in 11 catches and season highs 163 yards and 4 touchdowns. Dortch’s performance lead the Demon Deacons to a win in commanding fashion, 56-24.
2. RB Travis Etienne
Travis Etienne’s tandem partner position, quarterback, has been a wild mess in the past week for the Clemson Tigers. With Trevor Lawrence being named starting QB and Kelly Bryant announcing his departure from the program during the week. On Saturday, new starting quarterback Lawrence left the game with a neck injury and caused HC Dabo Swinney to turn to his other freshman QB Chase Brice in the second half down nine. Brice lead the Tigers to a come from behind victory, but not without the help of starting RB Travis Etienne. Etienne shined in his performance, being heavily relied on late in the game with the quarterback position weakened. Etienne got 27 carries and ran for 203 yards and 3 TD. This puts Etienne in the lead in the ACC with 8 rush touchdowns and 8.1 YPC on the season. Etienne literally carried the Tigers to a close victory over Syracuse, 27-23.

Kyler Murray’s Heisman candidacy has become clearer after his outstanding week 5 performance against conference foe Baylor. Murray has become a model of what Sooner fans saw last season from Baker Mayfield. Not only leading Oklahoma to victory week after week, but also the stats they put up in a Sooner uniform are almost identical. The junior baseball star leads the Big 12 in pass touchdowns and every rushing statistic among quarterbacks. Murray was clearly the top performer of the week, lead by his 7 total touchdowns, 6 passing and a rushing score. His season high 432 pass yards and 45 rush yards stole the show in Oklahoma’s dominating 66-33 win over Baylor.
