Game Run Down:
West Virginia couldn’t have looked much better in the first half of this
one. Will Grier and his wide outs were on on fire, connecting on multiple
long passes and just embarrassing the Red Raider defense, while the
Mountaineer defense shut down Alan Bowman and the Texas Tech passing
attack. And with Bowman going down with an injury in the second quarter,
it appeared that Kingsbury’s bunch had no shot of coming back from
25 down. However, backup QB Jett Duffey led a furious rally with his arm
and legs. With 3 minutes left, the Red Raiders had the ball down by 8 with a
chance to tie things up. Then, Duffey threw a pick-six that effectively ended this one. WVU managed to hang on to their large lead they made in the first half, but the way they stalled in the second half was concerning. For Texas Tech, the defense was yet against exposed in the secondary, but at least fans know that this team is in safe hands with Duffey if Bowman has to miss extended time.
