2016 NBA Redraft: First Round Teams get Another Chance at a Very Weak Class
1: 76ers: Ben Simmons
Career Stats: 15.8 PPG 8.2 APG 8.1 RPG
As a Rookie (Kind of) Simmons was already one of the Top 20 players in the NBA and had a jumpshot comparable to Shaq. At 6’10” with PG skills and unreal vision, he is a matchup nightmare. Even if he can never shoot, he can still be a perennial All NBA Talent which is worthy of the first pick.
2: Lakers: Brandon Ingram
Career Stats: 12.2 PPG 2.9 APG 4.6 RPG
Jaylen Brown might win the recency bias award, and this is very close, but Ingram has better numbers, better measurables, and is about a year younger. Ingram put up 16 a game in his second year and is built like slender man. He has the best chance of being an All-NBA Talent and goes No. 2
3: Celtics: Jaylen Brown
Career Stats: 10.4 PPG 1.6 APG 4.9 RPG
Brown struggled his first season but really broke out in the playoffs in his Sophomore campaign. An athletic 6’7” with a solid frame, Brown is a perfect versatile wing for the modern NBA. If he can continue to play at the level he did at the end of the season, he has All-Star Potential.
4: Suns: Jamaal Murray
Career Stats: 13.3 PPG 2.7 RPG 3.1 APG
Suns get their PG of the Future to pair with Booker and automatically have one of the best shooting backcourts in the NBA. Murray isn’t an elite defender or distributor for a Lead Guard but is a very good scorer and at 21 can still develop his all-around game.
5: Timberwolves: Buddy Hield
Career Stats: 12.0 PPG 1.7 APG 3.6 RPG
Hield doesn’t have the ceiling as many of the other players in the draft but has a high floor. In all of NBA history, he is behind only Damian Lillard for the record of most 3-pointers through 2 NBA seasons. He can provide some shooting on a Timberwolves squad that trots out Wiggins on a nightly basis.
6: Pelicans: Taurean Prince
Career Stats: 10.6 PPG 1.9 APG 3.9 RPG
Prince is one of the best young defenders in the league and can provide a Warm Bodied NBA wingman that Anthony Davis has seemingly never had.
7: Nuggets: Dejounte Murray
Career Stats: 6.6 PPG 2.3 APG 4.2 RPG
Murray is already one of the best defenders in the NBA and won 2ndTeam All-Defense this past season at only 21. He can provide a defensive presence on the wing for a Denver team that runs the 5-Man Cherry Pick Defensive Lineup.
8: Kings: Malcolm Brogdon
Career Stats: 11.3 PPG 3.8 APG 3.0 RPG
The ROY has slipped a little bit, but Brogdon’s impact justifies the 8thpick. As a Sophomore he didn’t improve quite as much as you’d hope, but part of that was Bledsoe and the general lack of continuity on the Bucks.
9: Raptors: Thon Maker
Career Stats: 4.4 PPG 2.6 RPG 0.7 BPG
Maker has shown flashes but hasn’t put it all together quite yet. Poeltl has produced a bit more but Makers upside defensively and from beyond the arc pushes him ahead as the top Big Man available.
10: Bucks: Kris Dunn
Career Stats: 7.6 PPG 3.8 APG 3.0 RPG
Bucks are a long-defensive minded team. Dunn is one of the better defenders at the PG position and balled out last season on the Bulls. Whether or not those were empty numbers is debatable, but Dunn proved he can play major minutes.
11: Magic: Dragan Bender
Career Stats: 5.4 PPG 3.7 RPG 0.6 BPG
Bender hasn’t lived up to the hype that the No. 4 Pick should to this point, but he still could given another year or two. Is that a great pitch? No. But if you’re the Magic you have time to gamble on 20 Year Old’s like Bender.
12: Hawks: Domantas Sabonis
Career Stats: 8.6 PPG 5.5 RPG 0.4 BPG
Sabonis struggled his rookie season but went off on the tail end of his Sophomore Campaign and dominated on the Glass for the Pacers. Hawks get a Big Man with great touch around the basket and the ability to go for 15-10 every night.
13: Kings: Caris LeVert
Career Stats: 10.4 PPG 3.2 APG 3.5 RPG
LeVert was one of the steals of the draft at 20 and can be a very solid NBA Role Player down the line. He’s played 2 years on the barren wasteland known as the Nets and now gets to go to the Kings who have won roughly 8 games in the past 2 seasons. Nice.
14: Bulls: Jakob Poeltl
Career Stats: 5.4 PPG 4.1 RPG 0.9 BPG
Poeltl has been a monster off the bench for the Raptors and will get much more minutes on a Bulls team whose primary center is Robin Lopez. He has the potential to be a Steve Adams type NBA Starter and could develop on a rebuilding team.
15: Nuggets: Fred VanVleet
16: Celtics: Pascal Siakam
17: Grizzlies: Yogi Ferrell
18: Pistons: Marquese Chriss
19: Nuggets: Tyler Ulis
20: Nets: Skal Labissiere
21: Hawks: Ivaca Zubac
22: Kings: David Nwaba
23: Celtics: Denzel Valentine
24: 76ers: Patrick McCaw
25: Clippers: Deyonta Davis
26: 76ers: Malik Beasley
27: Raptors: Guerschon Yabusele
28: Suns: Ron Bakef
29: Spurs: Paul Zipser
30: Warriors: Isaiah Whitehead
Honorable Mentions: Ante Zicic, DeAndre Bembry, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, Brice Johnson, Henry Ellenson, Chinanu Onuaku, Bryn Forbes, Alex Caruso
